New improvised Swan River SP rig

Check out this bunky I pulled off a snag whilst wading the Swan...

looks like 30lb braid straight through, a few swivels and clips, a lump of a lead and Gulp grub on the end

I can just picture old mate down at his local tackle store going "nah mate, plastics just aren't working for me'!

Yep, woulda thawt the blowies woulda eatn the placcy off if it was gulp....that setup would work, just wiukdnt use lead head hook tho, gulp is as good as bait, I leave gulp armed rods in the rod holder at night and they get fish

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

That works

With a current that plastic would have been dancing.  I have caught heaps of fish in thf boat and land based this way.  Usually I sit some bait below it aswell and I don't use a jig head just a hook

With current yeah it would

With current yeah it would be. I'd loose the jighead though as rig mentioned. Swap the plastic for 9inch zman grub, cast as far as you can, slow retrieve, bazinga mulla time!

I think its more about giving

Tue, 2013-01-15 09:49

I think its more about giving yourself the best chance possible of getting results. That was the first rule of fishing I was taught.

No problem with the concept of the rig, moreso with the hardware and line used.

no but... my dad (when i was a kid) always used to clip a squid jig on his swivel (at the end of his main line) when he was using a paternoster rig fishing for whiting, skippy etc  in geographe bay,  he always caught a fare few squid as 'by catch'... might have to try that out next time I'm down there
