New Job

I've hit a stage in my life where I'm starting to think about a new career something different as I've been working in the fire protection industry for quite a few years now and feel like I've hit a bit of a slump with it and are a bit over it was just wondering if people feel like sharing what their chosen professions are , to give me a few idea's to think about etc... All good if you don't want to just curious as to what other fellow members do for a crust or have done in the past .cheers

Depends

On what you want . End of this month I believe koolyn island is advertising for a few hundred positions. All different types off mining jobs.2 weeks on /2weeks off. But depending on if you have kids and wife . May not be way to go. Little andys got his resume ready. Also have refinery jobs coming soon . the new lithium plant in Kwinana most of there rosters 4 days on 4 off. And more than likely mon to fri jobs.I've worked in refinery since I was 20 (31 years). I love my roster. Plenty of time to fish / camp/ hunt. Look at your lifestyle ( now) and what you want out of a new job..many factors come into play.

 I changed careers 5 years

Sat, 2018-07-14 15:15

I changed careers 5 years ago at 34. Was a site supervisor for a drilling company and went into industrial sales. I was used to dealing with geologists and mine managers, so it wasn't a stretch. It took a good few years until I was making comparable coin though.

another thing to look at .

another thing to look at . do you want to be cooped up in a factory/office/shop or do you want to be out and about . personally i like to be out and about no matter what the weather, thats why my chosen work is driving trucks doing deliveries but its not for everyone

May have already tried that .building trade pretty poor , seen a heap of people loose jobs. Little Andy one of them due to lack of house slabs going down. Still think trying big company's way to go .plenty of options on the Kwinana strip. Tell you what I couldn't believe what a mate earns holding signs up( traffic controllers).seems happy.

Building game is shite at the moment LG as well as retail. Commercial enterprise is the go and he would need to stick with what he knows.

yep second what sea kem

Sat, 2018-07-14 18:33

yep second what sea kem posts.  I worked Oil field directional drilling / MWD for many years FIFO I took time off to start my own business.(my partners really :)

Now work teaching kids new skills and love it.  (OK have my times of hating it....but way less than working offshore)

of course there are bills to pay but job satisfaction should come first.

My advise really think about what you love to do and try and follow it ....one life.....happiness first money second.
