New phone with external phone ariel

It seems gone are the days you can get a phone with an ariel plug nowadays for a car....

Has anyone bought a new moby lately that you can get the external ariel for the 4 B????

Hey mate you can still do it with most new mobiles. Except you need a cradle now. Have a look at strike.com.au but there are a few others that make them!

Something like the "telstra tough max" is usually needed . Please dont remove the backing plate of an old samsung or similar and plug an ariel in near the battery as it usually has a wire going thru it that then breaks making the internal arial useless and then wont get signal unless the hf ariel is plugged in at all times.

Have the telstra tough max

Hi Timboon

Looked in to this as needed same to replace old ph.

I have the Tough Max . Blue tick phone . Ariel plug is in back . Have Ariel on 4WD , Boat and also a rubber plug in one about 150mm long or so for when I go away and don't have my car ( am going to Dirk later this month in mates car ) .

Last trip to DHI I had old Telstra tough ph with it plugged in and got reception where others didn't , will see what reception this one gets. Good reception when I drive to Kalbarri so far in the dead spots other ph have.

Especially the Hawks games....

Rumour has it Vickery is going to try and get a goal this week and Jaeger bomb is going to actually kick the fucking footy instead of having 30 handpasses!!

Thanks for the info fellas i'll look into it further...

Did you manage to get enough

Did you manage to get enough reception to tune in Boon? Just in case you didn't:

Spud Vickey tallied 3 kicks, 1 point, 1 free against.

Jaeger bomb increased his kick count by 1 this week. Just decreased this possessions by 14...

I have a Strike Alpha cradle

Tue, 2017-04-11 12:46

I've had them on my last three phones. They don't use a direct aerial connection, just an induction pad which rests against the phones internal aerial when in the cradle, connected to an extenal aerial. I'm just back from a stint down at the bottom of Tamala, direct reception was only in very short bursts. But, in the cradle, always had reception.( Google Pixel XL ) I didn't even have to put it in the cradle, just put it near it.But my wife's Note 5 didn't work the same,  no difference.  On my Note Edge, the cradle didn't make any difference down at Winderabandi Point, you did better standing on the roof of the ute. So, dunno.

For those of you who have a Strike cradle or are thinking of buying one, I learnt something useful last week. I've been buying a new cradle every time I buy a phone, so, every two years, another $150.   But a promo email from them last week mentioned "plug n' Play" where , if you already had one of their cradles, you could just buy the phone-specific part for your new phone, saving cost of a complete cradle. I went onto their website, no mention of it. So I contacted them direct, and they said sure, you just have to contact our sales team to buy them. I'm currently using one which was originally for the Note 7 (sob, I still miss it) , and I did  a bit of re-engineering to make it fi the Pixel XL.

Our approach to internet when we are camping remote for more than a few days it to erect a Yagi and connect it to one of those Telstra mobile hotspot devices, and run data through that. Makes a big difference. Because you are on a data connection , you don't have normal voice calls, but voip works well through apps like Whatsapp.
