NEW RECREATIONAL FISHING ARRANGEMENTS - Letter From Leader of the Opposition

Received a response from Eric Ripper so thought I'd post an image copy. Nothing earth shattering and I'd already CC'ed John Ford, but thought you'd like a gander.

That's what I would have said....

Great to see you at least got a response Colin. If I were a polly I would have said exactly the same thing... I am no sure what effect restrictions last year would have had on taxes this year. To me they are very separate issues. What happened this time around is that fishing restrictions have been imposed (tigtened dramatically) and a tax introduced to try to discourage us from paricipating at all, particularly offshore.

To quote the Princess Bride last night (hey! Sandra was watching it - I was setting up our new financial year budget Sealed) 'Polite but ambiguous, the perfect response'. Tongue out

Agreed, seperate, but related issues - (what I see as) an ineffectual levy as to reducing the take will hit inequitably hard in some areas.

I know a lot of us can afford the licensing fee but its the families that will be hit, family of 4 or 6 that love going out in the boat, enjoy maybe a fish for whiting herring, as kids love to fish but get bored quickly if the action isn't there, even kids over the age of 16yrs you know that saying and I think we've all heard "When are we going home,"

Its the heavily taxed items ever day items already, laid in bed last night thinking of everything thats gone up, if you sit and think of the price rises its way over the top then you get this license for fishing, really don't know how some families are going to cope within the next 12 months and then try to enjoy a days fishing.

Well, let's hope nothing is set in concrete. So maybe down the track somewhere, they will have a family licence, after all, there's plenty of precedent situations where family fees apply - why not to fishing licences. The benefits and enjoyment and advantages are too many not to.

Cheers Col, Thanks Joe, Ditto Roberta, Good Idea Saltatrix

Not THAT much of a response Colin, but should we expect more, after all, it would have only been signed by ER.

Joe, I suspect there is a lot of (desired) ball and directions between Colin Barnet, Cabinet, the Opposition and (no doubt) disenfranchised and frustrated DOF officers. I suspect that DOF have suggested bucket loads of idieas that have been nutered by Cabinet!

Good idea Saltatrix.

The worst we can do is allow early quiescence.

Keep the ball rolling, wherever it goes (not sure whether it's blue or red pill Dorothy! Wink
