My neighbour is in the market for a new sounder/gps combo. His budget is up to $1500 with the map card. What do you guys recommend for his budget.

Use the search option
Use the search option - its been covered many times and I found some useful info prior to upgrading my electronics from previous posts. I can recommend the Lowrance HDS system and Navionics gold card - would fit your budget.

HDS5
Yep i would go HDS5 50/200 combo comes with a Aus wide gold map for around the $1400 and is a ripper unit, and perferablly buy it from a local dealer as you will have full warranty and back up service(depends which dealer for back up, as some just take your money and then thats it and will palm you off to someone when it gets too hard for them) Bonzer imports is a non perfered dealer for any marine electronics here in Australia. You purchase anything from them and your warranty here is not valid! they are all grey market units imported from the states and then are sold off the net here. BE CAREFULL. You want support and backup for the unit support the deasler that supports our economy! Buy from a respected dealer that is a perfered dealer by that brand in our country. You might save a few dollars but when the shit hits the fan , who's gonna fix it quickly......... not bonzer !!

HDS 5
I have the HDS 5 combo. It's a nice easy to use unit that I would buy again if I was in the market.

Look at the Humminbirds
I have just recently bought one from Ryan at Mandurah Marine centre and got a great price. It is just awesome compared with the old Navman units I had.

The unit has some bling to it and not far from that budget. Cant remember the model but contact him and tell him Neels sent you and he will tell you the unit and Price.

Look above and try Ryan Arnup at mandurah. I think I got mine for cheaper than that and it is the same unit.
