Cool vid mate! Such a great
Cool vid mate! Such a great spot. That Rankin was a ripper!
My first trip there was in 1983 when I was two and my folks had been a few times before that. We used to do the family holiday there about every second year. Hopefully the govt lets Phil keep managing the station and camping the way he has been and my kids can enjoy it the same way we did.

Yes, kept that one.
The slightly smaller one we boated 20 minutes later was released. And the next one kept the Richter Soft Grassy that had accounted for the other two.

great footage
also watched the 2nd full vid of the Marlin capture and release.
didnt look easy to manouver once you get it to the back of the boat,
a few nervous moments when it wrapped around the prop, lucky the fish was pretty spent at that point!
it gave good perspective of how difficult it can be to land one.
also great to see that monster swim away!
thanks for sharing

No, didn't weigh the Rankins
We have a policy of not keeping them over maybe 7kg--we've killed a few 9-10 kg fish over the years, and they lose that Rankins' perfection, get a bit chewie. So we have been putting them on the release weight for quite a few years now.
Yes, marlin was unexpected, but everything went right for us. i was careless letting it get near the prop, but at least free-spooled before any weight got on, and my wife was quick to kill the outboard and get it up in time.
