well, well, well,,,
on monday, as posted we went for a short jigging session and it was the very first time with no bait on board at all.
i got home today to do the normal, check the boat is dry ready to put the cover on!!!
guess what???
no smell!!! it was a differant experiance i am liking, and it seem to be cleaner than normal as well.
i guess you just dont relise where the bait gets into.
not sure about giving the bait up for good when the ban comes off, but in the meantime i will have a nice smelling boat for the overnighters at rotto.
cheers ron

Ron, I truly think that if
Ron, I truly think that if the drift was conducive, soft placcies would be all you would need to use for the day. I'm yet to try it for the whole day, but I'm sure it's all you need to secure a good feed.

I'm guessing I will have
I'm guessing I will have much the same in terms of labour costs, but if they can send my parts asap from the US, might be back in action in two weeks time. I would presume that it might be in good stead with the sambo's.
On the flipside, it would be good to travel with another boat after my repairs just for the security.

agreed
haven't been out with bait for good few trips now.
never done better!
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

As Steve says it all depends
As Steve says it all depends on the drift. If the current and drift is too fast I think jigs and SPs are a waste of time. Can't beat a freshly caught squid for night fishing for pinkies as well.

You do know that if you come
You do know that if you come home fishing and not smelling of bait, the wife will be asking questions. Another prob is, your going to miss an important part of a fisho's diet. when your eating your lunch your not going to get the odd bit of squid or mulie when biting into the sanga. gunna throw your diet way out of wack
. noit to mention the day after your trip out you wont have any reminders of the trip as there wont be any bait smell ground into your hands that no amount of scrubbing will get rid of

Only time...
...I even bother with bait is when the father-in-law comes out (doesn't understand anything other than great blobs of occy and 300lb handlines) or my youngest children come out.
Lures will catch just as much if not more than bait, and usually bigger fish...BUT you have to have confidence in whatever lure you're using, and it really helps to have the right sort of tackle. A floppy old glass rod and mono line aren't much chop when it comes to jigging or working soft plastics, for example.
