no macks, but plenty of tuna behind the 3 mile
hey guys,
well it was drama drama drama today, even before we got to the ramp. this was the first time weve been out for about 2 months and since then weve had a new driveway put down. we were at the top of the drive when we heard a loud scrape and dad slammed on the brakes. the front keel support adjustment part on the trailor that hung down about 20mm was chewing up the new concrete, so out came the angle grinder and in a matter of minutes the trailer was circumsized and we were on our way.
when we got to ocean reef we had realised seabreeze lied to us again... not happy. it was a tonne windier then 10knots and looked rough out there, so we made the decision to troll behind the 3 mile and get some tuna for tea.
once we were out we were definately feeling the sea in the 485 trailcraft but we soldiered on as the reason of the trip was to check out the new pair of hds units we purchased before we make the treck to shark bay in april.
once we were behind the reef and in about 26m of water we threw the lures out, with dad driving and me on decky duties i made the call to go mono trace as there werent too many reports of macks at 3mile and the tuna reports were buzzing all over the new sounder.
after about 20 minutes of trolling dads 10kg overhead combo started shooting off, once again the 190DD in chrome pink was on fire and pulled up a nice 6kg SBT, which meant dinner was in the bag. (sorry about the crap pic, mum was on the camera)
as the weather wasnt getting any better we decided to troll back and call it a day, when dads reel started screaming again, and yes the 190DD is still my fav tuna lure. this one wasnt as big, but had way more power!
we still had the lures out when we passed a 4ft hammerhead just cruising by, which was a cool sight, no pics as we were all doing the awww stare. so we left the ramp at about 9:00 and got back about 11:00, which made it a nice and chill sesh.
no trouble getting our freshly circumsized trailor down the drive and its was a breeze getting the boat in the new shed.
we had a great day, even though it was 2-0 to the old man and hope to get out next weekend as the 2 month brake was way too long.
cheers rob.
ps how did everyone else fair today?
