No wire - Time to innovate

With the ban on wire, thought I'd see if there are any contemporary alternatives suitable for targeting mackeral or tailor from, or within 800m, of shore. Within 2 minutes of google searching I came across ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber (uhmwpe). Has anyone used uhmwpe, or are aware of any alternatives to wire.

Spent alot of time trolling, floaters etc
Out offparkers point used floaters on 80 lb mono, lose a few but get more bites, even trolling if you have a large trolling lure, tailor 3 hook gangs, Mr twistys etc, get the odd heart break.

Wire is over rated
On mackies and not necessary at all for tailor. Just use good quality high abrasion mono instead.

Agreed mate. We used to fish for greenbacks down Mewstone way and had a bunch of mono leaders tied with gangs and never lost a fish to a bite-off. They get rough quickly so just swap to a new leader and keep fishing.

I have been using Kevlar
I have been using Kevlar string to snell on mulloway rigs the past few months, trying to stay away from wire to avoid spooking fish and still catch green backs. So far so good have caught tailor over 60cm, fluorocarbon lasts less than seconds on fish that size. I think the big ones will still manage to bite off in a prolonged battle, it gets frayed after a decent fish so best to have a few tied you can replace during the session.

Had the first hookup on a small shark with the Kevlar rig yesterday lasted about 30 seconds. Several manufacturers make wire cored assist line check out Vexed flex wire cord. It's supposed to stand up to mackerel, I have been using their assist hooks and it's stood up to greenbacks perfectly. Surely a modest length at or just between the hooks wont attract too much attention.

Circle hooks
Circle hooks with 100pd mono and I have remained connected to big fish for way too long. Mackies not to sure though I troll without wire and have never lost one

I have the same opinion as nightfish. I use 100lb mono and circle hooks, and quite often bring in 3m+ Tiger Sharks. I only target demersal fish and are only using a 7/0 Ebay circle hook. Obviously a few manage to bite me off sometimes but I don't want the big ones anyway. I guess if you wanted to still actually target them if you used 200lb or more mono, and a thicker solid circle hook you'd still land plenty.

Use the Kevlar or Zylon that people use on assist to replace wire.
Then again it may be too thick to affect swim action of lures.
