non metro landbased rivers?

hey FW
im starting to warm up to the idea of heading further out of town to try my luck at some non-metro bream and other estuary fish. i dont have a boat/kayak/canoe so i'm wondering if anyone knows any rivers out of town with a decent shore i can go wading about in? or am i dreaming?
