Not fishing ( Tool trolley bling )
Submitted by grantarctic1 on Sun, 2012-08-19 17:39
Hi crew, with my boat upside down for the second time i got frustrated with looking for my tools all the time. With a few workers now, I never have a bench of my own to hold my tools etc.
I got the boys to knock up a frame for me on Friday, then got cracking on it today to finish it off.
Painted with all the pannels and drawers put in .
I still thought i need some more space, so i went and got a tool box for the top, I'm pretty happy with the end product and now i won't be walking around trying to find my tools .
No excuses now, Time to finish the boat restoration.
Cheers Grant.

Fixing the hull
Yeah mate i am repairing some holes in the hull of my boat. I had done some repairs before but while doing some work inside the boat i found some more corrosion and flipped the boat over while i had the chance before i fit it out .
Here are some links to what ive been doing, altho i have had a break from the rebuild i am now keen to finish the job .

Thanks Crew
Thanks crew,
The trolley is made from 25x25 tube, fully welded with corner gussets to fix the MDF pannels in place. The shelves inside are perferated steel mesh folded on the edjes then welded to the frame.
All the materials were left over parts from other jobs, including the wood pannels that were cut from a cover sheet. The only things i had to buy were the drawer runners and casters, + the red tool box on the top.
Now back to the boat, lol .

Just had a look at the pics
Just had a look at the pics of the fuel tank Grant Hmm some intersting looking welds on there. Why do the cowboys attempt something so crucial? I made a new one for a mate recently and had all the corners turned over so there were minimal seam welds. Good to see you're making progress I haven't had a chance to even look at the Quinnie I bought from salvage I spose you have to make time.

Not much time
Yeah i hear you mate, i have had no time to get into the boat until now, then i found more corrosion from earlier repairs. They never cleaned out the hull so lots of weld splatter had been sitting in there causing pitting from the inside.
The fuel tank probaly looks worse than it is . Except when it was fitted they rested it on the centre stringer wich wore a large hole into the tank. They used a resin to repair it but as you know this just makes more problems and repair very difficult.
I will be making a new one with 5mm aluminium just to feel safe as the last thing i need is fuel leaking into the hull .
Cheers Grant .
