Ocean Beach Marina
Hello
I have recently moved back to Perth from a year overseas. I am currently living on oceanside prom looking over mullaloo beach I am really keen to start up fishing again and last night took my light gear down to ocean beach marina thinking there would maybe be some whiting or herring around but had no luck everybody seemed to be fishing for mullet using bread is this the best fish to target down there and if so what rig would you use I have tried catching mullet before but found it very difficult to get them interested in the bait.
I was thinking of maybe going down there with a bigger set up and bottom fishing from the small beach to the right of the marina in front of the club for tailor or larger fish has anyone tried this from this location?
cheers everybody any help would be appreciated

I would have expected herring or whiting from there
I would have expected herring or whiting from there, but sometimes you just cant but a fish.
For Tailor near that area, i woudl personally try the northern Mulluloo beaches or up near Burns Beach (and surroudning areas). Mullaloo is generally sandy bottom so the usual tailor sinker rig is fine. But Burns can be reefy so best to baitcast unless you can get out past the reef.

Cheers Pembo thanks for the
Cheers Pembo thanks for the quick response I was thinking I could try burns beach actually I saw a few people mention it in this forum. I think I will keep trying for the herring as well in the marina if I get any an use them as bait for the bigger fish too. Have you fished off mullaloo beach itself?

If you are after herring, try
If you are after herring, try the southern rock wall on a nice day. Little bit of burley and you'll have no probs. even some of the little sandy areas between there and mullaloo (if you don't like the crowds).
I paddle between ocean reef and burns beach with 10g Halco twistys , always turns up herring. Have pulled Tailor during the middle of the day there too.

I have fished there a few
I have fished there a few times a while ago. I went to small carpark to the north of the main carpark (or maybe it was 2 carparks to the north). Pretty sure it was the first one if coming from Ocean Reef Road (does that make any sense??). I remember we headed a fair way north after hitting the beach. But that was mainly to get away from the swimmers etc that arrive after about 9am. We got some OK tailor and herring. But I have heard of the occasional shark and mulloway being caught there. Can be sime nice gutters if the tide is right.

Premix burley, small bluebait
Premix burley, small bluebait and small gangs. Depending on conditions, under a float or normal surf rig.

The beach and marker in
The beach and marker in front of the club house has got a decent reefrunning further north that can be reached with a decent casting rod from the inner rockwall @ the entrance.
It holds a good variety of taylor/herring and the fish that feed on them.
During the weekdays a few dinghies are fishing there and always seem to pull a good feed.
