Some time back I read in these post (I think) a fishermans thoughts on conditions that effected sport Hi's words /thought's are about the wind & it's relationship to fish bites We all know of the tidal influences but I think this has been right also : I believe he said East is least,West is best,I have been driffting with no action when the sea breeze from the west Sth west starts & also the fish any one with thier thoughts please reply as I think some of the old wives tails are still very reliveant .

I think the saying is B/S
I would rather stay home if the wind is in the North and anywhere from North East around to West, I just find it hard to raise a fish. South West I think is the best wind, but anytime there's a bit of south in it I find it easier to get a fish.
My reasoning is, our predominant weather comes from that direction (south) so the ground formation runs that way so our on a south wind drift towards, say an entrance to a cave, which puts the baits right at the entrance to the cave. When fishing on a say a northly wind the drift pulls your bait over the top off the entrance to this same cave and by the time the bait presents itself you've drifted past it.

North wind
Wind coming from the north usually signals bad weather coming with an increase of ground swell on the bottom and not seen until hours later on the top. This is usually picked up on good sounders as a stir up seen just above the bottom. Crayfishermen watch for it as a signal to move their pots away from heavy bottom and fish head into their holes to wait it out. The fish know when its coming well before it arrives and will feed, then shut down and feed again when it clears up

North winds
in boats seem to put fish off the bite. South and west winds seem to be better. Tailor fishing in the morning with an easterly behind you though is very good. Unfortunately my preferred boating locations in the mid west are mostly blowing constant 20knots southerlies which means the boat sits on the trailer a bit.

Wind changes relate to
Wind changes relate to barometric pressure changes and this effects the bite. Changing from w/Nw to w to w/sw would tell me the front has passed.

For me
For me it goes like this
When the winds in the west, the fish are at their best
When the winds in the South, the baits in their mouth
When the winds in the North, the fish come forth
When the winds in the east, the fish are at their least

Never had any good days with wind from the north. Plenty of days the bite has got better with a SW breeze.

Dam Northerly
Went out yesterday afternoon with every other man and his dog. Northerly swell and chop all afternoon . Didnt take my normal dose of sea sick tablets until we were out there and felt crook all day. Fished the three mile for an hour or so zipped. Got some skippy arround little island rough as guts chop. Was glad to get back and get the feet on dry land.
