One of the best days of my life

Alex my son has a big mole on his back and he has had it since he was born. In the last few weeks it has changed so we were off to the doctors as fast as we could go. Alex and vicky are in perth seeing a doc and got the good news yesterday it was all clear. As he is growing the mole is growing too so it looks bad, is what the doctor said. The better news is he is getting it cut off next month. The best news, i never have thought the worst, but it is always in the back of the mind. The relief was the best day of my life, that thing will be off my son and gone for ever.

great news
it's always good to get the all clear with anything, but those of us that spend alot more time in the sun and water should make an extra effort to get a skincheck atleast once a year, a small hole in your body is better than a large hole in the ground..

new treatment
Glad it's not the dreaded C
Think there's a new treatment using some sort of light strapped over affected area after applying some type of cream. Saw it on news in Singapore a few days ago. Used to treat serious sun damage and cancerous growth. Maybe you guys wanna call your local cancer center and ask about it (seeing that Aust has a high number of cases), it was pretty big news here.

Good Work
You can never be too careful with that sort of stuff. Great to see people acting immediately and not putting it off.

Good reminder for all of us.
Good news Jeff.
Lost my uncle to skin cancer a couple of months ago. He just like a lot of us spent many a hour fishing in the sun.
Today we are a lot more aware of the dangers of the sun and there are no excuses to not protect ourselves and get regular checks. Don,t be your average Australian and think it want happen to me.

I had one of them removed on
I had one of them removed on my back. And now i am a lot more sunsmart as my mole scared the hell out of me! another relief was after 2 days the phoned back and told my parents it wasn't canerous but if we hadn't of removed it, in early adult years it would of become canerous which was scary.
Good to hear its off Alex now!

Good news
Good news Deepwater... Daughter had a similar mole on the back of her neck and it tested negative also. After 30 years of working outside not covered I had my first skin/mole check 2 years ago. Had an unusual looking lump cut out of the back which proved carcinogenic but fortunately tests showed that all was removed. Now get tested every 6 months. As wopjrb said make sure you do the slip, slop, slap thing... I did just that last weekend..... Slipped into the local pub Slopped down a couple of beers and Slapped myself for even thinking about going out in the sun

Mate that's great new's.
Mate that's great new's. Moles are such a worry I was born wiu several large ones and have developed many more to the point where there is just to many to be checked. Now every 6 months I get photos taken and mached with the last pics by computer. Expensive but gives me piece of mind. Would love to have them removed but I wouldn't have any skin left!
