open season delights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi guys, open season is here!!!!! i went out of mindarie this morning on the good ship "barred up" (a well known 560 barcrusher cc) we headed out at 5.15 this morning and we could have bagged out on dhu by 7am!! we started at a favorite ledge in 32m with an 8kg male which went straight into the icebox 5 minutes later we landed another male around 7kg which we released with confidence we would find a big one before the morning was out, then we moved to our most reliable kg spot which was on the way to the next dhu lump and quickly added 5 kg's to 65cm to the box, what then followed was awesome the next 3 spots (of 1 drop each) produced 3 more dhu's betwwen 8-10kg all of which released strongly (we were still confident of a "big" dhu for open day) the next drop added 2 of the biggest breaksea i have ever seen including my new pb of over 2kg! and a nice 550mm baldie , the icebox was looking awesome by this stage!! the next 2 small lumps produced 3 more dhu between 5-8kg in 2 drops including a triple header of 2 dhu and a pink for the three of us, and the last spot for the day produced the 'big one" for the day for my mate Craig (easily his new pb at 15ish kg) which gave him a solid tussle on my stella 8k and tcurve 200 combo.(photo attatched)after an awesome morning we put a spreadf of lures out and headed for home around 12ish we hooked 2 nice blues on the troll and they both came unstuck near the boat, so we headed in . all in all an awesome start to the season!!!!!. cheers by the way big props to the skipper Joffa who did an awesome job again!!!!!

sorry no more pics
we were too busy catching dhuies LOL!! this pic was taken after 15 minutes in the icebox so the fish had lost some colour and as all dhuies do it looked a lot less "imposing' after some toime in the icebox. all our fish were caught between 32m and 44m and there were as many in 32 as 44m so i think that after a couple of months of the pressure off all "good" lumps should be holding fish. cheers

nice work. dream session there
that guy could pull a fish out of your bath tub!
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

i forgot to add
i also caught my first dhu on a jig today!! i bought 3 x 150gm fanky jigs in bali earlier this year that have sat in my tackle box for months (im not really into jigging)anyway on the last spot for the morning i decided to put one one and try it as there was a big "show" of fish on the furuno so i tied one on to my 80lb leader on my 8kpg stella outfit and dropped it down then proceeded to talk to the boys while it was plummeting down in 44m a few seconds later i wondered why it had not reached bottom yet only to find the line "whipping" off the spool , i had been taken on the drop! on my first drop with a fanky!i managed to get the bail over and all i can say is i got smoked !! whatever it was took 20-30m of line under heavyish drag and cut me off on the lump, i retied a bimini and new leader and dropped down with fanky number 2 and 3 lifts later hooked my first dhu around 5kg!, i guess ill have to give the fankys a run again soon. cheers

All about the jigs for the
All about the jigs for the dhuies!
A solid metro fish that. Gotta get out amongst it soon. 5hrs till the alarm goes off. But who's counting.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Without a doubt the best start to the season so far. Awesome trip by the sounds of it.

other highlights
some other "highlights" of the day were me getting seriously spiked by a fair sized flathead, and the most meritorious catch went to Joff (the skipper) for a great wirrah in 42m!!LOL (that gave us heaps to talk about for half an hour!) i also caught the biggest scorpionfish i have ever seen, it had eyes as big as 50c pieces!!, cheers
