well i havent paid the bill yet, so we'll see when i get home from work. There is alot of parts that obviously cost $$$ but 20 hours labour for what he done is a bit over the top.

I presume or hope you got a written quote before getting all that done . 20hrs labour seems a bit much . Maybe 12 at the most. Charge out rates vary widely , from around $85 up to $100 is common.
The fear of a huge bill now makes me get a quote first.
Good luck with getting the bill trimmed a bit.

boats cost a fuk load

Fri, 2014-11-28 20:00

hey bud you've been fisted fukd. there is about 1000 in parts and it would take about a day and a half to do the work. I reckon something around 3000 at most and also running a business u do have over heads and u do need to make a living. but charging 1000+ to much is kukn rude.

Ha Guys

Theres a lot of gear there, 2 and halve days...serviced the motor plus rewired the whole boat almost. Not saying thats cheap in any way dont get me wrong.

Can only hope he explaines the price through recipts etc......and hope you got a quality job for it, the price is always forgotton when recieving a quality product compared to the other way around.

You would be wanting a warrenty on his workmanship for that also.

just re-read his reply regarding the frig ups and the time needed to return the boat! not sure were he states the above but nothing is cheap and bussiness is bussiness! very dissappointing regarding the rework..some one paid $680 for a service not long ago, expensive place.

Get any good boat bussiness to quote that list up front....woundnt see to much variation i would think.

 Fellas, The service of the

Sun, 2014-11-30 14:50

 Fellas,

The service of the outboard including parts and labour was about $735 (which is usual for a 200hr service).

in total there was $2000 in parts which is normal retail value the complaint i have had is he had the boat for 5 weeks(whilst i was away at work). called me 3 days before getting home to tell me the job hasnt been done due to the pipe for the wiring to run though was too small (could have told me week 1).

I dont mind paying for quality, but when workmanship and customer service is poor you can put it in you pipe and smoke it. In total he had the boat for 6 weeks, and thre boat had to be taken back twice.

the job should have taken a maximum of 2 days to complete if done fully from the start.

run down of labour....

3.5hrs labour for service of outboard (this is stand practice)

5hrs labour to remove wiring from boat and fit new antenna and base

10 hrs labour to complete hull rewire and fit new electronics

1.5 hrs labour to fit new radio and test

keep in mine this is a 4.85m tinny!!!!!

In all honesty it should have taken an hour to remove wiring, and should have had everything fitting and ready by lunchtime the following day.

Thats Bussiness

Sun, 2014-11-30 19:52

Especially boat business, I think they should all wear balaclavas! my car mechanic charges $90 an hour which I think is steep...Boat shop $110 ph, the last small motor mechanic I spoke to was getting paid $35 Ph so go figure, well I’m sure they will sort all the problems and dont rest until they do, and I hope you get some back on there hours charged especially working on a tinny as access is surely easier.

I'm not sure this helps but

Mon, 2014-12-01 15:43

 I'm not sure this helps but I was only charged $800usd in labour to have;

- New Trim tabs and controls installed

- Stereo & Amp installed

- 4 speakers installed

- Switch panel fuses replaced

- New deckwash installed

- New bilges installed

- Boat swapped onto a new trailer with trailer adjusted to suit

- New Optima batteries installed and wired up

If I'd had it all done here I reckon I'd be looking at about $5k in labour at $110 an hour! What a joke!

I’m pretty sure i met you once doing some fill work at a very reputable tackle store but could be wrong, you came across as a top bloke and a very experience fisho who i would assume had been around the traps for a while, and id presumed by the fact you didn’t receive a quote first you were using some one you knew...possible a site sponsor or some body in the industry had recommended this company?.

Not trying to be smart but what sort of hourly rate were you expecting?. I know some of the hours are bullshit so i won’t ask about that. I seriously hope you get a reduction on the price, 5 hours for demolition for old wiring sounds far fetched, likely to be an apprentice as well.

Brock o your correct i was

Tue, 2014-12-02 17:30

Brock o your correct i was in oceanside for a couple months helping the guys over last xmas period.

i was expecting an hourly rate around $85/hr but wasnt expecting them to take 16.5 HRS  to do the job. you also riht as i was using a guy who had servicd my outboard in the past and helped me with a few other issues. The also has to be factored in that i had a aluminimum box seat welded into the boar specically for fitting the radio/stereo and switch panels and instructed him where to place everything. upon completion of the job he didnt put the switches in the correct place so now my icebox will smash the panel and break it. To get this box replaced is about $500, as it isnt repairable i will be asking that this cost it deducted of the price.

i am also not the first one of my friends to have a drama at this place. there is 6 of us who use him for outboard servicing and 3 of us have been to him in the last 2 months and been well over charged and lied to!!
