Outboard upgrade - most likely 2nd hand

I have a yammy 2t 99 model On a 5.44m 5 ml Ali centre console. I am to looking at an upgrade although not willing to spend to much. Have looked at merc 115 saltwater approx. 390 hrs with controls, gauges $4000, mariner 115 2005 model, controls, gauges $4000. As the hull is getting of age don't want to spend to much. Looking at reliability as well as if possible fuel saving.
Hoping to upgrade to a whole newer package in approx. 5 yrs. Also looked into Tohatsu, not to keen.

Any help would be appreciated.

will you save that cost in fuel? Otherwise wouldn't bother as won't add a lot to boat value.

If your going to stick with a carb 2 stroke you won't get much better economy. Better to stick with what you have unless its giving problems. I certainly wouldn't be selling a reliable yammie to put on an unknown merc saltwater series.

I would rather a 4st with high hours behind me than a newer 2st. A 4st will hold its value much better when it comes time to sell also and will make a huge difference in fuel burnt.

If you looking at spending

$4000 on a 2nd hand motor that you don't know, when a rebuild of the 90 yammie will be about $4000. How many hrs does the yammie have and what condition is it in ? it would be more appealing when it comes to sell the boat with a yammie on the back
