outrigger setup

finally got my outriggers and went out last weekend to trial with the deckie , the units came with a slidding weight out to the tip which we couldnt get to work so we removed that , and then had our lures and skirts connectd by a release clip that was on the pulley cords ,  all went well except that as we are trolling the release clip and pulley cords starts to work its way back to the gunnel.  i started out by cliping the end of the pulley cord onto the gunnel with the clip the units came with , this made no difference , so we then twisted the pulley cord several times over itself which only just held the lures out at the pole end,   are there some clips or tensioners iam suposed to be using ??

Tension

The clip to the gunnel needs to be very tight to keep the tension on the pulley cords. What brand and size are they?

snyder glass

Yea Adam they are snyder glass blank 14ft , i have the pulley cords tight on the gunnel, with the medium size skirts they would move slowly back in , trying with a CD18 lure , it was an effort to keep the lure out without twisting to creat resistance , the outriggers are bent under load  etc, and we have the tension on the gunnel clips which have a small section of bungie type cord to ensure you pull the pulley cords tight

cork balls

Mon, 2012-02-06 21:29

Sam they came with the cork balls and tube weight, originally they had the three way clip on the pulley cords which had a seperate line that could reach the gunnel through the weight and cork ball which allows you to have the release clips at the gunnel , clip on the trolled lure and then use the pulley cord to work out to the rigger tip , apparently half way out the the setup should take the release weight out to the tip , but we couldnt get this to happen , so we removed all of this and just have the pulley cord and three swivel and release clip,  what are the cork balls do?

Not sure

but it sounds like you haven't lessened the drag on the reel allowing the return weight to reach the end of the outrigger?

If you have not Tensioned the

If you have not Tensioned the lines enough you could add a shark clip off the snubber to stop the lines moving back down. Have a look at the link below for setup it might help.

My mate had this same problem, try angling the outrigger poles slightly back towards the stern,my mate used to run his straight out and the clip would creep back in

Thanks for the links , that shows all the setup i have with the return line weights , i will have to try again as i was just using a release clip on the line once the lure was out , might have to try the rubber bands
