entering gps points

Hi all , I recently gave a friends old man some gps points in Perth but he came back to me a few days later saying the points were wrong and there was no fish or bottom !! We got a chance to get out together later on { two seperate boats } and sure enough the points I gave him were way off . I fairly sure my points are correct as these came from the last boat and worked on my current plotter and the points were read out correctly.

I remember reading maybe a few years ago someone on here mentioning something about different ways that gps points can be entered or writen etc ???? Any ideas ??

He has a Lowrance lcx10 if it helps ..

Cheers fishfish

possibly two different formats for the position, check both units are set to the same way your old mans are written, could both either be in degrees,minutes,seconds(ie.31o 49'56'') or degree, minutes, decimal minutes(ie.31o 49.910') a possibility, the later is the most common. If not that, each unit could also be set to a different datum which would give a slight difference in position. Most recent is the GDA94 datum however most people would still use WGS84 most probably what your dad's marks are in, all in the setup menu on your unit.

I can relate to this one. Was given a whole bunch of marks but only about 1 in 10 show a good sounding! I'm thinking I have the same datum issues!
