Paint touchup
Submitted by Tbmc on Tue, 2015-08-18 20:35
Hi everyone
I was hoping someone could give me some advice on the best method to do touch up painting on an aluminium boat
I have only just purchased the boat
It is a white trailcraft and it has a lot of chips from sinkers ect along the side but apart from that the paint job is in pretty good condition
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Painting
hi tbmc
hope you can get hold of a small compressor because this will be a breeze for you to do it yourself.
using a orbital sander holding it flat against the panel sand the chipped areas down flat .I would use 180grit paper .
once all done clean the area down with Prepsol. Mask off under the chimes and also upper gunnel lip . Use a aluminum etch primer 1-2coats is sufficient over the sanded areas . Once dry give a light scuff with 320 grit .If you can find a auto paint distributer ask them to mix the colour for you you might need a sample to take to them for a reference . You can buy the Prepsol ,sanding discs ,tape and plastic you require from them some even hire compressors and spray guns etc.
Once you have cleaned the areas with Prepsol again and mixed your paint in the gun (please wear a SAFTEY MASK) over your mouth and nose ) stand parallel to the area with spray gun about 30cm from panel and walk down the side of the hull over everything .3coats should be enough and leave 6-7 mins between coats .
Hope this helps any questions PM me phone number and can chat about it.
Ps I have a panel/ paint shop and have painted plenty of boats before.
