Pandora's replacement?

 Crew,

Whats the best replacement for Pandora?

They've got rid of it for some reason!!

Spotify is an obvious choice but it seems i have to buy the premium version to run on my Sonos system at home so if i'm going to have to pay for tunes i may as well come here and ask peoples opinions on which is the best music provider.

Pandora was a fucking ripper, free with shitloads of choice and easy to use.

I run Spotify premium. Find it pretty good. All my playlists are downloaded as I do some pretty big kms outside of phone range.

 That's funny I'm sitting in

Sun, 2017-08-13 10:17

That's funny I'm sitting in my spa right now listening to Sonos. Gutted about Pandora too. I have 100 gig of tunes sitting on my NAS. This is what I did before I got Sonos and Pandora. Looks like this is my way forward. I just access it via iTunes to make playlists and they are available through Sonos. I preferred having Pandora do the work though... As above, you can fiddle around setting up a VPN but I don't think I can be bothered... It would be nice a cost as well..

Anyway this album has finished, better go finish the cockpit light installation on the boat..

Spotify, if you have  a kid

Sun, 2017-08-13 13:05

Spotify, if you have  a kid who goes to uni/school, sign them up at a discuount and use their account lol. Or make a family account and its cheaper if you want to run more than one account.

Sun, 2017-08-13 14:19

I've got a shitload of organised tunes on hard drives but you tend to always pick stuff your into rather than stuff maybe you havent heard of etc.

That was the best part of Pandora you get introduced to sick tunes through other artists similar to what you've chosen.

Appreciate the ideas and replies but was hoping someone had a magical fix.

Can someone explain the VPN thing, if i can access me old Pandora i'd be stoked and just keep rolling with that....

 vpns basically just make

Sun, 2017-08-13 14:29

vpns basically just make websites and things think that your IP and thus your location is from another country, so if you got a vpn and set it to america you could access pandora as i believe its still running in US.

Not really sure about Pandora, but if you interested in vps just google it and you can get ones for free.

spotify has features like pandora with finding similar music to what you like. Not really sure what pandora has that makes it desirable at all really. However i understand it would be nice to keeo on with something you like and been using for a while.

Hopefully someone can point you in the right direction.

 The trouble with VPNs are

Sun, 2017-08-13 15:00

The trouble with VPNs are they route all your internet traffic through another computer somewhere else. It stands for Virtuial Private Network. It is usually used by companies to allow you encripted access to a work server. The trouble is that there are rules of the network that apply to all connected traffic, like work VPNs often restrict access to some websites like social media etc. When you join the VPN your computer is issued with an IP address  and you will use the gateway of the server you are connected to to access the internet. So if the VPN server is in the USA you will appear to have a USA address.

It all works well for getting Pandora to work and some streaming services will work for you like catchup TV and stuff BUT, things like your google searches will not work proprerly because google will think you are somewhere else. This can be annoying.

It would be good to have access to a USA VPN that you can swith into for using Sonos/Pandora and disconnect when not. It would probably have to be done inside the router that the Sonos system is connected to so it is a tricky setup and you would need to log into the Router to switch it on and off. I am by no means a network engineer but I have a good friend who is who has set up my system and I know just enough to be dangerous.

BTW Pandora is definately still accessable from USA IP addresses.

 Cheers Grun and Fisherlad.

Yep the VPN thing sounds like a win/loose situation.

I've got an IT geeky mate that lives in San Diego, I might have a word to him and see which way he reckons to go.

For anyone interested i thought this was a pretty clever way to get free Spot Prem, have not done it myself but if anyone is keen to have a crack let me know how you go.
