Paternoster rigg for coral bay deep
Submitted by Kempy580 on Thu, 2019-05-09 02:35
Hey guys, so have set up some paternoster Riggs for coral bay looking to get down to about 80m mark ( only have a 4.6m boat ) last time I went out there had a few hooks bent ( owner circle hooks ssw 7/0 )
I have been running 100lb rigg with no swivels just the old Doubled up granny knots ( seem to work well in the pilbara ) to make the rigg. I will be using the same rigg but with the new hooks mustard 20202r #18.
Any tips On this set up or should I re think?
Will post pic of the rig later ( working)

I use 200lb leader minimum
I use 200lb leader minimum on my rigs up north with twisted loops and 7/0 or 8/0 tarpons. Imo you can have too many swivels which means more knots to fail. Very rarely lose fish on that setup only to boltcutters etc.

We only use 110lb lease and
We only use 110lb leader and 130lb on the hook snells
As andy said less knots is less failure
Have been fishing this way for near on 15 years and never lost a good fish to line failure
sharks the only problem
use anything from 7/0 upwards and use mustad u can’t go wrong

bending hooks
if you're bding hooks maybe try back off the drag a little as well
when I was charter boat fishing in around 100m of water with Mills Charters back in the day we used to run around 8-12kg of drag pressure
