PB Sambo

Thought i would share my biggest sambo to date that i managed to catch few weeks back on mates boat in 11 meters of water just behind garden island.

Weighed 20 + kg ( As you can see struggling to lift the big fella up, bloody horse of a fish and fought like a bull on roids )

If that's 38kg, all the ones I've got on 12lb must be around 50kg...

Always good to have the drag

Mon, 2012-05-28 17:18

Always good to have the drag screaming off!  Regardless of numbers, still a nice fish.

(Sambos are pretty tough, but if you're going to release them, its generally a good idea not to lift them by the gills. I'm sure it swam off well, but just a tip for next time).

whats going to say, you need

Mon, 2012-05-28 17:28

whats going to say, you need to support the fish more mate, dont hold fish from the gills if your planning on a release. Its entire body wieght is now being held by its head/spinal cord and its not a good thing. Try putting one arm/hand under the tail and one under the head. Im sure it went back fine, as you said that, but dhuies, pinks, any other less hardy fish may not fair so well..... this isnt having a dig more some positive constuctive criticsm..regardless 11m would of gone like a train!

got a corker on sat night fishing for snapper behind 5fathom. after setting up for a night snapper sesh, didnt take long for the burley to bring in a few rat sambos n skippy. after getting afew small snapper something large ate my bait. fought it for a bit then it went for a smoking run to the front of the boat, felt the anchor rope and then snagged. busted it off calling it for a shark.

what do u know, sent my bro to pull anchor from 25m as we packed up :) he was bitching non stop, after giving him a few mouthfuls, i went to the front to take over.....yeh it was a little heavy. a friggin huge sambo was wrapped around the chain with the trace. awesome to see such a fish ,but sad it was cactus.

ive jigged up 20kg ones on charter b4 and this one was much bigger.

happy fishing
