The Pilbara never ceases to amaze me
Today my friend Mark (Lizardo) and I were able to get up a local Pilbara creek to chase some barras. The strange weather of late resulted in tough fishing. However there were a few things that happened that I made the day special.
We were lucky enough to be joined by Brucester and his mate Garath. We entered the creek to the sight of Bruce slipping the net under a large queen fish that seemed to cause Gareth a fair bit of grief. After several hours of towing lures around ourselves, Mark connected to a nice mid size baz. We placed a tag in the fish and released it. About half an hour later mark hooked up again. As I netted his second fish I noticed the fish had been previously tagged... by us. It was the same fish. And it was a at the other end of the trawl run from where it was first captured. It’s good to know that all the effort we go to looking after these fish with fish friendly nets, supporting the belly when lifting etc actually does work.
The rest of the day saw us, and every other boat that was in the creek, flog a dead horse. The creek was lifeless. It was a vast difference from my previous experiences in this creek this season. On the way home I stopped by a reliable reef to pick up a cod or two for dinner. I caught one that was looking very healthy. After I took the fillets of, out of interest, I opened the stomach and was amazed by what I found. A whole blue swimmer crab. Not sure how the cod thought it was going to fit my lure in its guts as well.
Cheers

Cool
Good work, the Barra must have been hungry. Do you tag all of the Barra you catch?

Yeah we had a good day mate. Could only do about 8knots getting to the creek but once that wind dropped and the sun came out we were able to get 3 bazz and a heap of bycatch. No mdog unfortunatly haha. spewin you had to bail mate. was pretty average early on.

Well done anyway
Like Poor old Brucesta Stuck at work, and now the boats down south LB when I can get a fish. Some youngster kept me entertained by not listening about sharp Oysters. I will try and download the outcome.
