Pimp my ride - fishing trolley.

I beach fish most of the time and I've been getting into shark hunting of late. The trouble is that when you decide to beach fish with 20 litres of burley you have to start scaling back the amount of beer you carry with you!  ...............

I even fished an all nighter sober the other day and in the depths of my misery I decided to bodge up a beach trolley to lug everything around. If anyone's used one some insight would be much appreciated. 2 wheel fridge trolley style vs a 4 wheeler? Detatchable wheels and a sled style undercarriage for really soft sand?? Fixed folding handle or a rope to pull it along with? Thinking wheelbarrow wheels and an ali and ply frame depending on what I can beg borrow and steal.

LOL, studied mechanical engineering so no doubt it will be the most overengineered sled in the world by the time I'm finished playing around but please put some whacky ideas out here for me. Rod holders, gaslight, chopping/cleaning surface and a seat are a few additions I'm toying with aside from the compulsory esky and burley bucket, bring em on...

Ahaha. I was going to suggest shooters... then u only got to worry about 1 bottle. I know this sounds stupid, but why dont you look at some of those kids trollys. They are made for sandpits and shit and i have seen some pretty big ones. But then most things are big to me. Someone with kids might know?

I will agree with the golf

I will agree with the golf cart, I have put wheelbarrow tyres on mine and it passes cruisers and patrols. Well maybe not but a well engineered setup will have you rods, esky, tackle box and 20ltr bucket all on there very secure and capable of tackling rocks and boggy sand.

Its a one man arsenal.

If you don't have 1 get a save up and get a 4wd. It even has a built in radio and shelter lol and you can go to better spots

Would just a wheel barrow do the trick

Not bad for $150, but i'm sure that it can't be hard to knock up something similar and more suited to your own needs/tackle

Yeah JayEm, Dr Google was the first thing I tried (sometimes I can hardly beleive the questions I catch  myself asking on there ) but asking fishos is the best way to sort out dud ideas from good uns. From the suggestions so far the two wheel golf cart/fridge trolley style option seems the way to go and my first thought was that that would be a simpler more user friendly option. I will definitely have a look at some of the gardening and kiddie trolleys too, did you get the garden trolley down the beach Chris? I'd be keen to know how it went in the sand. That ebay set up looks wicked and I'm sure I can do better than that myself for 120.

I did take a few whisky flasks fishing for a while Dodgy but couldn't help feeling that drinking hard spirits alone all night was getting a little close to the edge of alcoholism, I'd rather just build myself a beer wagon . Besides, after a few even a half hitch in my main line around my little toe wouldn't wake me up if I had a fish on. There's some thing about beer + sunset + fishing that's pretty hard to replicate/replace. Getting a 4wd is the long term goal Rig but I spend too much money on fishing gear to get there fast.

Either way, keep the ideas coming and I will post some pics up of my first build after I make a decision. Cheers all and tight lines.

Ebay USA

Tue, 2011-02-15 08:37

G'Day Knigit and fellow readers, great idea you have come up with, although you are not the first, I looked on Ebay USA and the yanks have some pretty cool idea's (strange as it seems), with your Mechanical Engineering background you shoud be able make some of the ones featured in this link even better, note the one hooked up to the tow bar.

With a little bit of effort you may even be able to build a dozen or so and set up your own "Fishing Buddy" business..

seemed alright the couple of times we used it...the kids only struggled pulling it when i was sitting on it ...lol..mind you, you'd have wash it down and grease it all the time  I'd imagine the salt would eat it fairly quick

I have a small one I made up

Thu, 2011-02-17 12:54

I have a small one I made up from two milk crates and a shovel handle to pull along with.

Original wheels where ok on hard stuff, but sank in   the sand. I have now replaced them with soft inflatable wheels off a furniture trolley and run them close to flat on  the sand.

on the side of the crates I have a allie rod holder ( type seen on many bull bars) and a small bait bucket on the side as well. Then just dump my fishing back in it and fish bucket, and off I go....

simple, cheap and stops me trying to carry to much.
