Plastic dinghies

 Hi guys

Anyone here own or have experiences with plastic dinghies, especially the Finn Spin-drift series? I'm looking at getting one, 2.4-3m for river fishing.  Will be powered by a small outboard.  Some parts of the Swan and Canning are excellent for fishing, but accessing those places are not ideal with a 19ft boat! Haha

Thanks mate.  Have read some of the reviews and videos. They seem great. I've had 12ft dinghies before but this time I would like something smaller without a need for a trailer.

I got a 3m spindrift with 6hp

I got a 3m spindrift with 6hp outboard and electric motor. Perfect breaming boat and great for fishing/crabbing the flats in the Peel inlet. Was gonna sell it when I got my boat but I just can't do it as it's way too much fun and gives me another option when the ocean/lower Swan is puss

3m is perfect for 2 people or a solo mission and I've had my boy and my brother/dad on board without too many worries. I get up to 13kn solo and around 6.3kn with my brother on board.

It is plated for 6hp but if I had my time again I'd go the 8 or 9.8 as it is the same engine with different carbies and slightly larger head in the 9.8. Would be nice to get on the plane with another adult on board.

I launch mine with a trailer as I found it was taking me about 45 mins to get setup carrying it in the back of the ute.

 No room for another trailer

No room for another trailer at the house..

The castaway model is looking very attractive.  Put it in the back of the van, along with a 2-3hp motor (inbuilt fuel tank). Find a good spot to fish, put dinghy in water, put on motor and gear. Enjoy!

I reckon it'll only take me 10-15mins to launch with the Castaway and small outboard & fishing gear.

Castway

Mon, 2016-01-11 01:42

I have the castaway and use it all the time. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it fits inside my Patrol loaded ready to go.
I did do some modifications http://fishwrecked.com/forum/pimp-my-canooo-take-twooo

I use a small electric now and then, but most times just use the tides to fish an area close to wear I can launch. Once I fitted the seat it was very comfy and I can sit in it for hours no problem. It is a bit of a slug to paddle but I'm never in a rush and drifts well with wind and tide.

 G'day Grant!

You've done amazing things with your Castaway. I am looking at a Nissan Patrol as well, so to know that you can fit the Castaway in, is great!

We'll have a Castaway get together when I buy mine!

 Yeah, have read reviews

Sun, 2016-01-10 12:11

Yeah, have read reviews about them and they seem tough.  My idea is to have something light which I can just throw in the back of a van or 4x4 roof, without too much hassle.  The Polycraft (75kg or so) will be too heavy for me..

Having said that, thanks for the suggestion though. Much appreciated as always guys!
