I was under the impression the shire had cleaned the ramps up a couple of months ago. If they decide to do it now it no doubt will have an impact just when the white season could be starting

When are we going to get decent boat ramps here in Rockingham? Can’t even launch a 21ft at bent st low tide just goes straight onto sand

In todays society where "squeaky" wheels get oiled, may I suggest emailing the Council and contacting the Councillor/s who represent the Ward the boat ramp is in.

Make sure that you ask who is liable for any costs to vehicles, equipment, people who may suffer as a result of omissions as an effect of the boat ramp being neglected.

I work for a neighbouring City in the Local Government circle, You can achieve quite a lot by enlisting the help of elected members.

They would love to be elected again as a result of helping people and gaining votes.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - at least they are free to use and no parking fees.

FFS, we've got 6 boat ramps to choose from within a matter of a few kilometres. What more do you want?

Low tide is not the council's fault.

In 25 years of boating in the Rockingham area not once have I not been able to make it out.

It was high tide at point Perron. I’d rather pay $100 per year for parking and have facilities that are maintained as required

Could have 50 ramps within a few kms but no point if there aren’t fit for use

"It was high tide at point Perron." - sorry, I must have got confused when you said "cant even launch a 21ft boat at bent st at low tide".

Watch 6m and 7m boats going out from Bent st all day long and in a couple of weeks when the cray madness begins some of them will be lauching from the Donald St beach ramp.

I guess having a vehicle appropriate for the job probably helps.

Just to clarify

The ramps may be free but the up keep would be coming out of the Rockingham Shire budgets which are funded from our rates?

Not that I live there but why not? They upkeep many other facillities that I would probably never use but other people in the community would, like playgrounds etc.

I've gotten into the habit of engauging 4x4 at all times at Peron, whether I think I'll need it or not.

I do feel for those that haven't a 4x4 as getting bogged at the ramp is not a good experience.
If some one is experiencing problems at a ramp I think it behoves us all to get out of the car and give our fellow boatie a hand, too many times I have seen peps sit in their 4x4 and give the person who is experiencing trouble retrieving their boat a heap of caustic comments which are not going to help the situation at all.

Get out of the cab offer the stuck boatie a hand and hey, the ramp is cleared quick as and you can feel good about the help you have given some one without being asked, a good feeling for the rest of the day even if you haven't had a good catch to take home.

My folks got bogged on Sunday in a prado. Wheels on the trailer washed out and 4 wheels spinning. Backed down a bit further at pace and applied right foot to get out.

Yeh no problem for me ive got a smaller tub 5m and as long as im quick retreiving no problems. If you got a fourby I dont think it should be a problem. It can be a pain tho when the extra sand in the area attracts the waves into the harbour.

Seem to ignore those ramps

Yet the same council have a bobcat to clean the Pt Kennedy ramps the moment they get weeded or sand build up ......go figure. Perhaps the mayor uses those ramps ???

I hadn't my onc annual launch there with my boat last weekend and they seemed to have tidied it up, or it was high tide.
