Poly boat repairs, need some advice
Submitted by clogwog on Sat, 2014-07-26 18:16
Purchased a poly boat today with good trailer for an absolute steal, the trailer is A1 the boat on the other hand has some substantial issue with the hull, the floor has a major bow in it. Just wondering if anyone has had the same issues and how they fixed it.
I was thinking of either filling it with hot water and applying some heat with a heat gun to the other side or bringing it to the powder coaters and sticking in their oven to get it to temp then applying even pressure. Not sure what temp I would have to heat it too though.
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Clogwog, (nice name, my family are also clog wogs) I've heard of people putting them on the trailer in large ovens to 'right' themselves if the hull is bowed. Has it struck something or has it been on the wrong trailer? I've also heard of people cutting the affected area of the floor out and welding in a new section (really simple job for a plastics fabricator).
Your best bet is to contact Polycraft and send them some photos and then contact one of the 5 or so plastic fabricators in Perth to do the work.

There is a bit of stuff on
There is a bit of stuff on Ausfish about this, on polyboats with a poorly set up trailer.
From memory the solution from Polycraft was to adjust the trailer correctly then take weight at the transom and leave it to sit as it will take the form.
Pretty sure you shouldnt need to cut it though unless really bad
Incidentally the term for this is "hogging" and even happens with ships, especially wooden, that are poorly chocked when slipped. "sagging" is the opposite.

Thanks for all your help
Thanks for all your help fellas,
The bow in the hull has definetly been caused by the trailer, had a look online for trailers to suit poly boats
and they are supported differently then ally and fibreglass. Will need to modify the trailer to suit.
i lifted the boat off the trailer last night and supported at the transom and it has already taken some of the bow out, I reckon with a nice hot day with a little weight in it it should come back good.
will do some more research on the web and see what else I can find,
again thanks to all for your help.

they have to be on the right
they have to be on the right style of trailer, it'll correct itself in time. It certainly wouldn't have come from an impact. what size is the PC?

Hey Brucesta the poly is a
Hey Brucesta the poly is a 4.1, not sure of the make though, the vin shows au-twa.....
The hull is in reasonable nick with the only issue being the floor has raised approx 100-150mm up. I reckon a little even weight and a warm day will have it sorted pretty quick.
Thanks Shark1 for the offer, I may take you up on it if need be.
