well not exactly

tuna should tire after a few runs, a continuous run like that is unusual. Why would you cut it off? Let the reel do its job and tire the fish, and besides that the Shimano reels generally hold 800m (roughly) of the corresponding line class - if it spools you, then so be it.

But to say he should have cut off (what would have been potentially the fish of a 1000 lifetimes and or a world record) is utter stupidity on your behalf.

You've got some interesting comments alright dhuboi... Makes one wonder.. I'm with you Podman, a squid or shark or something of the like, certainly seemed bigger than just a tuna. Especially for a 130w.

considering

drag at 20

Wed, 2009-09-02 18:01

plus water drag on the line i would have backed off a little. It broke at the reel when he put a bit more on it.If it was a 350kg bluefin it would hardly know it was hooked for the first couple of mins.Good fight anyway you look at it.That is one of my trips before i die list.Must remember to take at least 2 130 reels and join the gym a year in advance.

That goes without saying James

I reckon I've picked up wet rags that are heavier than you!

And dont worry, that guy had a fair bit of help or he would have ended up in the drink. whatever it was he had hooked was pulling like a steam train.

surely the skipper could

surely the skipper could have done more maybe get some more angle on the fish, try and plane it up or try and get around the other side instead of just drifting there

what ever is on the other

Mon, 2009-10-19 22:50

what ever is on the other end of that rod there was no chance of him gettin that it in , no having to blokes grab u only to nearly still go in the drink .  So you would rather let a fish spool you completely and waste a couple of hundred bucks if not more then a thousand , when it takes all ya line , and possibly even stuffs the reel ?
