Popper Time

hi guys have done plenty light poppering for salmon etc but never anything heavy
borrowing a mates 50lb braid outfit to throw 150mm poppers at kings
just curious what the best rigging technique is
i was thinking 4ft leader tied with albright knot to mainline and uni knot to the popper. this is what i usually do with my lighter poppering.
is this fine or is the albright knot not an ideal 50lb knot?
is tying directly to the lure ok or should i crimp a loop to allow for better action??
cheers

Best of avoid the albright,
Best of avoid the albright, its not that hot. Consider moving to a GT < PR or FG.
I think Lucky Tim rigs his with a sleeved and crimped swivel, then a split ring, then the lure. It allows you to change the lure without rerigging.

Rigging...
If you can tie the FG or PR knot would be great as they are the slimest knot by far, otherwise if you struggle abit you can also tie the GT knot. The GT knot is a fair bit simpler and quicker to tie. At the lure end we just tie the leader to a swivel via a uni knot, the swivel will be attached to a split ring, allowing you to change lures quickly with a split ring plier. Unless your leader is over 150lb, then you crimp your terminals on.

Thanks guys GT looks the
Thanks guys
GT looks the goods for me nice and simple
Does it make a difference to your casting if your bimini loop is too big?
Was thinking of only running a short leader say 4ft so the GT knot will at least be out of the guides when castin just need the bimini run through smoothly??
Also what is a good simple double for me to tie in mono mainline? I know you can do a bimini in the mono but is there a better option? Just need to attach a wind-on for livebaiting

bimini - shorter the better
bimini - shorter the better IMO. Reduces the chance of the bimini splitting & wrapping a guide.
As others have suggested, fg or pr is best. GT is too bulky when it comes to heavier leaders. You can still tie a uni knot in 200lb - depends on what type of heavy leader you buy. Fisherman & ygk gailis & jinkai is supple.
Leader length depends on environment - if the there's structure or heavy reef, perhaps longer is better. At least with kings, you don't have tail scoots that can damage line.

I run at least an 8 to 10
I run at least an 8 to 10 foot leader of 200lb jigging master with a PR on to the mainline.
It is not the easiest to tie a uni in it afterwards, but it is possible, just cant get that many wraps into the uni.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Only runnin 100lb
Only runnin 100lb fluorocarbon it's not an area full of reef or structure so 100 is ample as should 4-5ft length
Will have to practice these other knots and if I can master them in time will choose that. But if I'm only running a short leader the GT knot might sit outside the top guide anyway....
What are your thoughts on an easy mono double to tie apart from bimini on the livebaiting outfit??
Cheers
