Port Warrender Point Walsh

Wed, 2012-02-01 19:58

Hi Jake was up that way mid last year. Went up Gibb River road parts are sweet but some of the fill that has been used on the road will rip ya tyres apart if ya don't let tyres down a bit. Road from Gibb River/Drysdale turn off was corrugated as all *^#@!. Road upto Mitchell Falls gets little if any maintenance at all.

Friends did a quick recce up toward Point Walsh and said you may have to do ya own road works to get through. If previous travellers havn't done it already.Be prepared to take it slow and steady. Can camp at Drysdale (have a bar) next spot is on the King Edward river about 8 odd km's up the Mitchell Falls road AWESOME spot. From the people I spoke to who had just been there camping and fishing said it was worth the trip, can't camp near the water and you will be roughing it totally no shop or fresh water after Drysdale. Be perepared to get eaten by midgies & sand flies.            Have a think about going to Kulumburru Good fishing not bad camping spot at Honey Moon cove just out of town about 3/4 hour. A dinghy is a must ya might want to consider going up earlier as the weather will be warming up about then and ya could get rained in (might not be a bad thing)

Good Luck with ya travels, take ya time   PLAN WELL.

The plannings the big thing hopefully will have a good trip with plenty of Pics to post after we get back .I have heard that if you fish Kulumburru you are not allowed to take any fish to eat there or in the frezzer , its a damn long way to go not to be allowed to eat any of the fish or crabs you catch .Cheers Jake

Get in touch with the Aboriginal council that control the area, do need permits for Kulumburru. Can check online for which council to contact WA Gov might be able to steer ya in the right direction.

Unless things have changed we took and ate fish we caught up there, Few locals offered to take us crabbing. Kulumburru in town is a "dry" town can consume out of town but don't let locals know ya got any grog, we hassle you big time.

The road to Kulumburru gets looked after better the road to Mithchell/Port Warrender. Travel can very well be slow from Turn off Gibb River, just hope grader has worked the road for ya.

Happy Travels   Good Fishing
