Prawning and Scallops

Hi guys,

I am looking to expand my horizons on fishing and try new things.

I was hoping I could get some tips and guidelines on how to get prawns in the swan and some scallops in the sound if possible.

Have never tried either so any base advise would be appreciated from where is best to go, what sort of gear works and what time of the year/conditions you would best to go out in.

I have a 45ft game boat plus a trailerable boat so I can access most areas.

I heard a rumour that people trawl nets in the swan for prawns? is that true?

Thanks

J

drag netts

it was very popular years ago to drag a prawn net around in the swan not so popular now as the prawns have dropped of it was a relaxing ways to spend a summer evening if you didn't get the deep end of the drag net . Those were the days the roar of a kero lamp prawns bubbling away on a fire 6ix on the car radio kids being kids with mum and dad getting spiked by a cobbler that gets caught in the net and having the next day of school

think drag nets are still legal.
some use them down near pt walter.

for the boat....not sure about the swan but in Mandurah cut have anchored and put lights underwater out the back of the boat on an outgoing tide. then scooped the prawns with a long handled scoop net.

one at a time but its fun and the kids love it !
nothing like firing up the BBQ on the boat at 2am and having fresh cooked garlic prawns !!!

Is prawning in mandurah the same theory as on the swan ? I'm guessing on an outgoing tide, just after some good rains is the perfect time ?

I've tried it once from the old mandurah traffic bridge but didn't have much luck. Have never really thought about it again until I read this... would love to take the tinny out to dab for prawns
