Prawns and tides????
Submitted by flash as on Tue, 2009-06-16 10:12
I was told years ago that the best time for prawns is at the hieght of a large outgoing tide with little moonlight, with high tide being around9pm. That you have to be in position at high still tide also. Does any one have a theory or can you back this one up. Apparently a small high tide is very minimal prawns ??? Also i believe there is about 7 hours between each tide from high to low and vice versa. I am reaaly interested to know what every one else uses as guide lines for a successful nights prawning.
Thanks heaps guys
Mrs flash

Spot on.
You want a big change in tides and the run starts about an hour or so before high. No moon is good.

should have trusted my gut!!
we went out on sunday night and i stupidly let some one else make all the decisions and surprise... we got 11 prawns lol.... Matty an hour or so before high tide would mean the water going the wrong way wouldn't it ??

Sorry mate!
An hour before low! You want to be anchored and set up just before dark.

ya what to prawn on the
ya what to prawn on the biggest drop over the shortest time.ie high 1.2 @ 9am low 0.5 @ 8.30 pm
having the low finish anywhere between 7 and 9.30pm will have the prawns running.after a good rain will see them piss out.
dont right off a prawning on a full moon, have done well before on them.

Prawns!
Holths on the money, big High and Low low means a good flush with the bottom of the runout well after dark. The New moon better but the Full is still good. The Fullmoon effects diving for prawns more so as they will often bury themselves but with a flush out (dabbing) the Fulls still good!
The next New Moon will have very favourable times/tides also, i use the Orange Tide Guide book on Ryans counter
