Premium Octopus

Hey Guys, Does anyone know any crayfisherman or places where you can buy the premium octopus from at a good deal.. I live in yanchep and a few people have spoken of a guy that sells it at a good price in two rocks but I haven't been able to find him yet. Got some from tackle world but $21 a kilo is a little on the steep side.. Any info would be muchly appreciated..

Cheers Guys

You know that works out to $23.75/kilo yeah? Makes Hal seem almost reasonable.

They're very easy to trap at any marina around town, or the bottom end of the Swan.

Geez at the prices being charged I'm tempted to start selling them myself.

A pro boat penned in the main channel near the Zing cafe, has a sign up for fresh occy with a number, can't help you out on the phone number or price though.

Coventry markets (Todays Sunday Times, advert) has cleaned whole occi at $7.95 per kilo.  Your may be able to negotiate price for bulk, just don't tell them what it's for.

Was actually there today and saw the occy they were selling. For the price it didnt look too bad, but in general it looked pretty average. Small (4 to a kilo) and looked imported. I'm sure it would be fine but the quality isn't as good as premium local stuff.

Premium Octopus

Mon, 2013-04-22 00:52

We sell that, its full food grade and comes off the commercial boats to us within 24-48hours (not common)

Kalis and many other food shops get the exact same stuff and sell for $24-25 per kilo.

We sell for $21.95, cryovac stuff and we dont normally advertise as our local customers & FW members clean us out.

It's amazing they couldn't give the stuff away a few years back. If I get fresh occy I cook it as it beats squid for taste.

Local ocky!

Mon, 2013-04-29 18:42

Cheers Luke, my family had 2 crayboats at Tworocks (sold now) and their ocky was good but comparing what they offered me to the Fremantle commercial guy a "big difference" as the Fremantle guy only targets ocky!!!

I pay a bit more but quality wise its the best and a 24-48 hours cryovac  turn around so ...........FRESH as........important

Go to the cut in mandurah

Tue, 2013-04-30 12:08

Use two gidgies. One with bait like a dead herring, the other ready to go.

Dangle the baited one in any off the likely looking holes in the rocks. Only have to give it about 20-30s and if nada move to next. However if one comes out tease it away a little and wham. Instant fresh occy.
