Pulse length
I play round with pulse length. There are trade offs. The shorter the pulse length the better the definition. However the shorter the pulse length the lower the depth penetration.
In shallow water I use the shortest pulse length to maximise the definition.
In deep drop one has to use both lower frequency and longer pulse length.
In between those two extremes play round with varying combinations to see what works best for you.
Hope this helps.
I worked with ultrasound in a previous life.

Ive found that running short
Ive found that running short 1 in 80-120m gives better fish seperation and anything under that short 2
