Quality and Bright LED head torch not sure on what brand to go towards?

http://fishwrecked.com/forum/head-torches

Dear folks

The thread above is  7 years old

Wondering what head torch you guys would use while night fishing/hiking ?

I am thinking about a LED head lamp hat has has two modes wide spread light and strong bright focus point.

However not too sure on what brand to go towards.

Bought 2 from ebay for $28 = total $56 and YEEEES they killed two pairs of genuin Panasonic NCR 18650GA reachargable batteries each pair cost me $20 total $40

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RECHARGEABLE-13000LM-BORUIT-B22-XM-L2-2-XPE-LED-HEADLAMP-HEADLIGHT-SOS-LAMP/302277989609?epid=738387348&hash=item46612c14e9:g:ynwAAOSwC1FbtNKH:rk:1:pf:0

Therefore I want to buy something that I can trust ,,,,happy to spend above $100,,,,one time payment it will be forgotton

Thanks

Black Diamond

Wed, 2019-01-16 17:43

I gave up buying cheap head torches after I threw out the first 6 or so that failed.  I and family (wife and kids) have now been using Black Diamond head torches for years when camping (and we do a lot of camping).  They are not cheap, but handle rain and spray, have a variety of modes that give different light intensity (including red light for night vision) and last for ages on 4 x AAA batteries.   I use rechargeable AAAs.  There are different models available depending on how much you want to spend.  I bought ours onl;ine from Wild Earth and they were well priced and Wild Earth gives good service.  We buy a fair bit of camping gear through them.

Check out Olight, very high

Wed, 2019-01-16 19:42

Check out Olight, very high quality and half the price of LED lenser with great warranty and customer service.

LED lenser is good, but over priced and I’ve been let down now by 2 of there torches and when you see what else you can get from other quality manufacturers for the same price as LED lenser it makes you wonder why so many people still by LED lenser.

Also when you search through the US forums about the best quality torches, LED Lenser doesn’t even get a mention!

Thanks Paul for sharing

the one that my friend bought it from Olight Parramatta Rd Auburn NSW called : ThruNite TH30 for $100 and was recommended on USA forums.

He lent me to use and light is very bright but I couldn't figure out an option for focus point.

I am using it in wide spread light

Yeah mate the only downfall

Thu, 2019-01-17 07:11

Yeah mate the only downfall is that they don’t have the zoom function, from what I could see LED Lenser were one of the only quality brands that do the zoom lense. Apart from that the Olight are great.

This is the head torch i have, the H2R nova, crazy bright and long battery life, water proof upto 2m’s.

Are you saying both of them produce same lumen and H14 R2 is brighter ?

 The h14 is 1000 lumens, mh10

Thu, 2019-01-17 17:06

 The h14 is 1000 lumens, mh10 is 600.

Like pirate said, the h14 is the top model unless you want to spend big bucks and get the next model up.

The mh10 is still very bright and perfect for most fishing application while being lighter. It's a much newer model so newer technology. Not as bright as the h14 but it also has a zoomable beam

Battery life of the mh10 is also roughly 4 times longer than that of the h14r (120hours vs 30)

 Myself and my fishing mates

Fri, 2019-01-18 09:41

Myself and my fishing mates have had the reverse experience to most of the above posts. I used to buy the expensive LED lenser head torches, found they produced a tonne of light but they had the durability of a worm on asphalt on a 40C day.  I think I went through 2 of these before I decided to go down the ebay route.

I bought 2x eBay cheapo's 4 years ago - both still work to this day, with almost weekly use off the boat but mostly in the surf getting sprayed. I replaced the rechargable batteries in one about 2 years ago. Porduce more than enough light and at $25 you can't beat the value. Only downside is they are a bit heavier than the expensive lights, but I have a big boof head so no issue.

The 3 blokes I do most of my fishing with also all have the eBay specials and have never had an issue - brand we have been getting ins the Boruit. On a side note, my very bright Lenser head torches would produce bulk light but would catch a lot of mist in the surf so would only effectively illuminate a few meters past my face and then the crap in the air would impede my vision, never had that problem since switching over. Not sure if it is the lense on the light or the actual amount of light, just something i've noticed.

Zebralight and Fenix are good

Wed, 2019-01-23 09:39

My favorite headlamp is a Zebralight H53, runs on AA batteries and has a nice flood beam. My second favorite is a Fenix HL23, another AA headlamp with a combo spread/spot beam.

There are 18650 versions from both manufacturers that are also very good. Olight and Thrunite are similar quality and have good products too.

I've got a high end led lenser. SEO7R

It was expensive but it is Awesome! They are a great company. I broke it after I'd had it a couple of years and they just sent me another one. No receipt or hassles...

Mega powerful, light and rechargable. It was expensive though..
