Quick morning fish
It's been a little while since I've put up a post so I thought I'd share this mornings quick session. Went out with a mate for a quick casting session on the local barrier reefs. First cast and I hardly had half a crank wound and bang a little red bass smashed my popper. I called it for a bigger fish at first due to how hard it went. I was only saying on the way out that I haven't caught a red bass on popper yet: well that is that duck out of the way. We kept moving up the reef and a little while later I nailed a nice little blue-fin trevally. We then moved into one of the passes in the reef and started casting. I noticed that we were drifting over a huge dropoff so I changed to a 80gm jig and within 5 minutes had a solid trout that will be eaten in the very near future. No huge fish but a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Sounder
Fished in a mate's boat today. But the sounders in and I've only taken the boat out once since installing it for an hour or so on Monday. We saw fish in 400m while travelling at 15 knots. Found a lump in about 80m holding fish, marked it, set up for the drift and sent down a jig. It hit the bottom, first rod raise and into a nice little trout. Oh yeah baby. We went in shortly after that but I'll be out there again soon hunting some doggies. Stand by.......

Safe
I had a good teacher back in WA regarding finding productive ground and setting the drift. As for keeping you safe; mate I'm trying to find the time but between the fishing, diving and playing with the kids, well you know how it is.....

Those bluefin are beautiful fish, spent three months at Christmas Island getting caned by them on soft plastics and bream gear!
Nice report/pics...looking forward to the next installment!

Dive Gear
I've sent my dive gear back to Aust for servicing Russ. Don't want any gear failures at 40-50m that's for sure. December should see me back under the water.

Lure
It's a River2Sea Bubble Walker Alfred. I bought a few cheaper poppers the last time I was in Cairns to use when hunting GTs. I would rather lose a cheaper lure to a giant trev than some of my expensive Weazel poppers. When they're in the mood the trevs will hit anything. If things are quiet the Weazels gets pulled out of the box, they are my go-to lure for sure.
