Quick Trip to Cape Town, South Africa

Hi guys, made a quick trip to Cape Town for me mom's 70th celebration bash. Had 2 days to try and catch something decent, no luck with that, but was still great fun fishing with some mates of mine.

Mountain location: Strand, 1ste Plaat - (close to Steenbras Mouth)

Beach location: Wolves Cliffs, in Macassar for monster Bronze Whalers.

First day headed out to the mountains for some deep spot fishing. Nice warm day with excellent conditions untill the wind turned and started howling from the south west, eventually forcing us to quit. Only excitement was my Pyjama Shark and my mate got cut his trace cut of by a decent size Thrasher Shark.

Second day ventured to try catch some monster Bronze Whalers out at Wolves Cliffs, Macassar. Had massive baits out on slides, bonito.s / whole monster mullets (see pic) / mac's / monster squids and no bite. That was untill a buddy of ours arrived at 5pm and he hooked into a monster that bit off his 250lb hook trace 50mt of the beach.

Was a good time to meet with some old friends and just enjoying the moment.

HA HA - eagle eyes you have Rig - mate of mine wanted to buy a Shimano Trinidad DC 30, got the reel for a day to play with, superb casting and smooth drag ability. Every penny of $ 550 worth IMO.

The rugged coast is pretty

The rugged coast is pretty amazing. And there are those SA rod holders again! Anyone know if a similar product is available in Aus??? I also have the Trinidad 30 DC, still working on perfecting the fine tuning but it casts a mile and backlashes are (almost) a thing of the past. Very happy with it.

rod holder

failing that go get a couple of aluminium star pickets from bunnings and some pipe bolt together.

the rod holders that go in the gunwhale of a boat could be easily attached also to give a more proffessional look
