when will people wake up that our indiginous players are the most exciting players in the afl , cant believe paddy ryder and eddie betts were racialy vilified on the weekend , i would have both in my team any day of the week . Wake up australia the face of the game is changing more and more african aussies coming through to top level as are asian aussies you only have to look at grass roots footy to see that and i think thats for the better
luckly eddie and paddy are both champions and wont let that crap affect them

Port Clubs
Seems to be a common theme between port clubs and scumbag supporters.
And that's also why South Australia doesn't deserve nice things.

Its not the AFL
Its not alive and well in the AFL, its alive and well in society.
As long as people have differences, whether it be race, religion, colour, heigth, weight, language, job or anything which is a point of difference...there will be someone who will use that difference to try to offend or upset someone.
Unfortunately it is human nature. You will never get rid of it. Doesnt mean its right...it is what is is.

I'd have to disagree and will
I'd have to disagree and will say that the AFL has come a long way since the day Nicky Winmar took a stand at Victoria Park.
In 2001 I was playing for Gin Gin and Nicky Winmar was playing for Wongan-Ballidu and it was discussed heavily in the leadup to the match that anyone who made any comment regarding his race would be banned from the club. Trying to wipe him out anytime he went near the ball was fair game however and we put him off his game badly. On the return fixture he fixed that by leading from the forward pocket and marking outside the 50 arc and just torping goals from 55-60m at will and I think he kicked about 6. Was actually a pleasure to watch despite the loss.

personally , i really dont
personally , i really dont like the way we seperate and divide by labelling
the terms asian australians , indigenous australians or african australians
that is where its going wrong and causing the issues imo
if you live here and have citizenship where all australians and should support the one access to all services etc
the way we are now is causing this ''them and us tribal divide''imho
the gov needs to lead by not only recognising others cultures and religous freedoms as well as supporting the traditional ones australia has adopted from our early colonisation and settlement

I agree, but, some religions are afforded more religions freedoms than others. And, some religions do not particularly like or even acknowledge the "god given right" to support your own religion.
Politicians are so shit scared of offending people that they actually end up offending more people. When you start acknowledging the special nature of a certain race or creed, you immediately by exclusion are failing to acknowlege others. Our culture (whatever you deem it to be) is in serious trouble in the coming few years. Thankfully I feel that in the last 6 months or so there has been a bit of a re-balancing, but not nearly enough. And no...Im not a Trump supporter.

point well made
your point is well made and correct , what i should have said is kids of african and asian decent are intergrating into society andto are starting making an impact in the afl , very much the way the kids of italian decent did back in the 70s and 80s these days those blokes have their sons and grandsons geting drafted under the father son rules and their surnames dont seem so strange , one name comes to mind silvangni . And for the post about Nicky Winmar , the bloke was a champion

Education begins in the home
Education begins in the home and therein lies the issue with most of the issues we've seen in AFL crowds in my opinion.
That being said we are only 2 generations out of institutionalised policies based on race being the WAP and assimilation and there will be a natural flow on of some of those views through the proceeding generations. It's not something that is going to be tackled overnight, that's for sure.

Correct
The funny thing is that alot of the education is "reverse education". By that I mean that our parents sometimes need to be the ones that are educated in the ways of modern society.
Now, before anyone jumps down my throat, I am not saying that we should not be able to insult someone. End of the day, if you are a prick, and you happen to be of a certain colour/religion/height/weight or whatevever then I may refer to you as a "fat prick" for instance. That is my perogitive.
But, as Jackfrost says, we are still only a few years removed from some things that we may not be too proud of.

Sometimes
i think the players mentioned above like to blow things out of proportion. I am sure players like Peter Daycos, Steven Silvani, Ange Cristou etc, would have copped some form of derogatory remarks about their heritage, but those players as well as the media didn't jump up and down about it back in those days. I'm not saying it's right to do so by any means, I am merely saying that it isn't something new.
keep it simple people, eyes for the ball, work hard, respect one another = job done

You're right
you're right with your comments scano, I think racism has been blown out of proportion these days. English and italian are called wogs, dings, poms, dago's and all sorts of things and It doesn't even get a second look. I remember a saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me". Toughen up !

agree with the comments above
agree with the comments above
there has been way too much social media and sensitive hype about all these special differences
thing is if i moved to japan , i would expect to live by their culture and laws, not expect to change it to suit me to the detriment of the people who havelived their eons
unfortunatly our govs & human rights activists , are hell bent on using taxpayers money to push the minoritys wheelbarrow on every occasion
the tide needs to turn back alittle to regain some balance , and that will only come when the focus is put back on common unity ,not trying to divide to suit a minority who migh be upset at something they dont like
at the end of the day , citizens stay or move here because of how our society is , if it was good elswhere , they would not wish to move to come here and live ,
