RBT for boaties
Submitted by mako magic on Sat, 2010-10-09 16:01
this week noticed a write up inregards to the wa police wanting to do RBT's on the water, currently we are the only state in all of australia that the water police dont have to powers to enforce a breath test, will be interesting to see what happens with this.
certainly a few boaties along the river and over a weekend rotto trips that might feel the pain with this if it comes in

will be a shame in one way,
will be a shame in one way, if it goes ahead
i admit to having a few on the river and the stays at rotto, but if its a big one the boat is parked up for the night, and we do not move anywhere.
i know of some people that get smashed and then have run into jetties/boats and even the shore, the next morn they relise what they done cause they have to spend more cash on fixing what they broke.
1 in particualr hasnt been back on the water for over 6mths because of the damaged he done $$$$$
2 cartons of teds to get from freo-canarc-freo, 2 blokes in about 3hrs?
same as on the roads, there are the ones who take it to far!

hope not
fishin and drinkin go hand in hand IMO. i cant recall a time when there hasnt been beers on my boat. absolutely nothin better than cruisin back from rotto with the boys, on the arvo glass orf, esky full of crays and fish, frosty cold coronas in hand. you simply cant get a better moment in life.
i cant figure out how some people can go sooo stupid when on the turps. its these people that are fucking it up for those of us that enjoy (and can handle) a beer.

It wouldn't
phase me because generally the skipper of the boat is the bloke who drives the car towing the boat home. Therefore if he's too drunk to skipper the boat he's to drunk to drive. Simple.
Be a good move, you see some d%$#heads out there.

2 each
Usually on a fishing trip there are 2 cans each, no more and they are not opened untill the first keeper is in the box and the last one on the way back to the ramp

Can't enjoy a beer...
...until back home and the boat's been washed and the fish have been cleaned. It's the same as after a day of work for me, beer just doesn't feel right until everything's been done.

i dont believe that drinking
i dont believe that drinking and boating mix. the skipper stays dry and if the crew want one its up to them but i dont even like that but its their choise. go for the rbt's for boaties as i have seen too many idiots on the river that have been drinking, even one that ran straight into the landing under canning bridge, luckily no injuries to the boddies on board but the boat was a bit of a mess

Have to agree
Have to agree with auslobster, cant enjoy a drink till I get home and all sorted. I personally dont allow alcohol on my boat, I dont see the need for alcohol to have a good time, the pleasure is just being out there.

Old fart is a dry skipper
and dry boat. Like Auslobster he loves to get home, clean the boat, starting cleaning the fish then he yells old Berta were is my coldie while he cleans the fish. Water and booze do not mix also when he went pig/kangaoo shooting no coldies till back at the camp site after getting what they wanted
Love to see the Police down at the public/private woodie ramps reckon some of the boats come in on the fumes hahah

Got no problem with a few beers on my boat. Everyones a big boy here.
Dont drink during serious line class comps and whenever I have the family on board but dont mind the rest of the time.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

i almost always drink on the
i almost always drink on the boat when fishing nothing better than a nice day fishin with mates and having a drink! but i can say that almost never get to drunk to drive! i dont see what is wrong with drinking as long as its responsibly i can drink 7 or 8 beers in one 6 or 7 hour fishing trip the key is to use your brain! i always eat plenty of food to soak up the beer and substitute a beer for some water inbetween drinks! as they say drink responsibly! on the otherhand i have seen a few idiots that sit on the river with family drinking way to much then getting behind the wheel of a ski boat and towing a skier around! totally stupid and irrisponible putting the lives of themselves the skiers and other boaties at risk really dumn stuff! i believe if u cant pass a breath test then u shouldnt be in control of any vehicle! at the end of the day its illegal to even ride a pushbike intoxicated so why should a boat be any different!

I'm interested
in if you've ever been pulled up on the way home after a day out on the water with 7-8 beers under your belt? Be interested in what you'd blow?

Beer for water?
Are you dinkum, flash as? Water is for hydrating/quenching your thirst...alcohol does the opposite of that...DEhydrates you. Also not too sure about the "legalities" of one standard drink per hour....just because you may adhere to that rate of drinking doesn't mean you'll be under .05 on the way home. It takes your body a lot longer than an hour to absorb a can/stubbie so if you keep "piling" beers on top it's going to build up.
Most people are well within their capabilites to drive a car/boat at or slightly above .05 but if there's an accident, whether your fault or not, and you blow above the legal limit, you can count on your insurance and/or the other party's insurance to look for any excuse not to pay.

Common sence does not apply
If common sence was all that was needed the sea rescue group would not be so busy.

Emergency at sea
Some say on the skipper needs to sober. What happens if they have a accident at sea an the crew are half cut from alcohol. Who is the responsible one then. Unlike a car if you have a problem (sink) you can't just walk home unless you think you are JC.
On my boat there is no alcohol - period

Opinions Are Like Commodores
Everybody has there own opinion ,and there own rules .......
Once again we will introduce a regulation to effect the majority in able to police the minority !!!
I'm normally (hopefully) to busy fishing during the day to go back and forward to the fridge for a beer ......But cruising home definately into a few then.
Iceman ......people don't need a few drinks to have an excuse to do stupid things on the water.

just my opinion!
well i reckon (knowing the powers the ocean has and how much we all have to respect it) you would have to be an idiot to go out fishin and get drunk as a skunk, but in sayin that i dont agree with the legall limit of an rbt for example i could have 6 or so beers and not even feels tippsy yet and that would prob make us blow twice the limit and your screwed, i always have a few drinks while fishing, just never go over the top because MOST(not all of us) of us know what the ocean is capable of. i dunno about the rest of you but ive lost 2 relatives to the ocean, a while ago i must add. it all comes down to the situation at hand, who you are with, where you are, knowing what you are capable of and knowing that you can get you and your crew home safely.

agree skipper is responsible
agree skipper is responsible for the boat, and everyone on it. 9 times out of 10 he is also responsibile for driving the car home as well.
I personally have no issues with people having a beer or 3 on my boat while out, me however on the very very rare occasion may have 1. (mid strength) But to be honest, in metro waters drinking beer while fishing does more harm than good for me.
however visiting places like the monte's there is always beer in the asky.. (bloody hot, and bloody hot fishing!!) so always a few mid's along the way.

it aint worth drinkin on a boat.... if you do get caught ( they do have rbt on the water) and blow over then you cant even take your boat home cause you lose both licenses......what you do on the water also affects your license to drive on the rd....... so really it aint worth it...... best just to have a few drinks when you get home after a good days fishing.......or a bad day!
