Rec fishers using long lines ??

Are rec fishers in wa alowed to use long lines ?.

I was wondering because itsa good way to get something nice out deep. Say 100-200feet of tiger rope, some good sise shark hooks. An couta heads for bait...or a full tailor (in tassy comm boats we used full mullets/chunks of shark in close). Stripeys go mental over shart meat...

Now if it is legal you can avoid some prick pulling your lines by placing the buoy 6-8 feet under water. This means you need to be spot on with your gps coords an you will need a grapple. But it stops thives cold.

Only thing then you have to worry about is a king tide, cos if that happens y will have to wait for it to pop back up.

With 100 hooks baited, you will get something... Long as you come back an pull say.... 6-8 hours later. ( pulling 100 feet of tiger rope with a lead dropper on end will sort men from boys lol)

 Totally illegal and nothing

Tue, 2015-02-24 18:20

Totally illegal and nothing but a hazard for boats and sea life.  I've come across this twice where about 100m of old cray rope with multiple hooks wired to the rope and home made reef anchors and bricks attached. Lucky it on got hooked on the outboards leg and not the prop.

Yeah mate , the fisheries would go into meltdown ,  alarms would sound around the state, and grass would stop growing

if you did that bloke.

But give ya due , if your unsure of something , like common assult on public beachs or long lineing old school style, at least

you ask , and seek advise and thats more than some.

No you cant.

Only 3 hooks or 3 gangs of hooks. Even those bait chaser rigs with 6 hooks sold by tackle shops aren't allowed unless you cut them in half.

I remember some guy saying your allowed to do recreational longlining in tasmania. Is that true?

The use of longlines was here I WA.

Never been to Tassy, hope to get over and have a look.
Been nearly all the way round Oz by road and from Eden to Port Hedland by sea round the bottom, Hoping someone wants a boat taken from Eden to Hedland round the top so one can say they have down the circle.

Don't know about that, only spent one night there to refuel the boat and get some more liquid supplies. Would you believe we fishermen got kick out of the Fishermen's Club for not wearing covered footwear, our thongs weren't good enough so we went to the pub across the road and had a great time, still laugh about it when Taffy and I get together, Wadey would too if he was still with us.

I was in tassie couple years ago and went fishing. You are allowed to set nets over there and allowed a long line that goes along the bottom with 30 hooks. We set ours with big chunks of squid as bait pulled up about 20 gummys kept 5.
