I see Cottesloe Shire have banned shark fishing from their beaches, that will probably go onto othe beachside places too.

thats crap, whereas theres
thats crap, whereas theres plenty of sharks off rock walls, theyre near impossible to land,
beaches are the only hope for landinga a shark, and all the local ones are slowly being taken off the list,
also, how can anyone prove that youre shark fishing, if you have a heavy setup and a shark just happens to take the bait, what can you do about it,

prove you're shark fishing....hahha not much of an argument
TLD 50 800m of 100lb line and a whole tuna head on a hook as big as your hand ?
sorry but that's just insane. that's like saying maybe the local continually facebutted the fishermans fist and knees

Unfortunately...
...these guys aren't "getting a bad name". They're giving it to themselves. I do, however, wonder why people are swimming at 8pm...the residents' big concern was sharks being attracted to the area because of the what the fishos were doing, yet people are intentionally in the water during what most would agree is a prime feeding time.

So
So they assaulted the people once they started filming them.
Public area so you can be filmed, and like it or not they have banned shark fishing on those beaches.
Just flat out poor form from the fisho's ,
However, I don't even fish those places anymore because of the locals who seem to think the sun shines out their ass, They are quick to pass laws through the council over every little thing they don't like.
No winners in this story that's for sure

sharkers
The shark fishers kind of bought it on them selfs.I prefer Trigg to south of Floreat drain but hold off till all the surfers have gone. They will get out the water eventually.South beach was worse they will go in just on dark the current pushes them gradually north where you are waiting/fishing then when they want to get out they want to do it where they got in which means they wade past where you are fishing again. It does not give you the right to pelt them with star sinkers. They are usually foreign visitors and dont quite get it.I was at North beach jetty recently in the middle of the day and a fisher was getting herring on the edge of the reef and some dude swam from the south right past where he was.The best bit was just after he went past he turned around and came back through the same spot. This bloke was ropable and I left so I was not a witness. On the other side I was at Cottesloe groyne and have not been there for years and some french guy was lobbing a live herring with wire trace and a glitter bug float due north from the end which is about 30 metres from 8000 people enjoying the beach.Dont start me on the lycra clad push bike people on the road.I wonder how many times the young shark fishers have been hassled by nosy civilians for them to turn like that
just do it.

This is not good
I must confess that I didn't know that fishing for sharks had been banned in the Cottesloe area, so I' ignorant of this local ordnance.
By reading this story it appears to me on face value that the fisherman attacked the person taking/filming him fishing knew about the ban and that was the reason for the other wise unprovoked attack.
No excuse for such action.
It appears to me that the fishing fraternity is under attack from the tree huggers saying how barbaric our recreation activity is and it's cruel and should not be allowed etc etc.
We (fishing people) unfortunately some times unwittingly give these people free shots at us by the photos we put on various sites showing our friends what great catches we have made, what's wrong with that you may well ask.
With one small (to us) exception nothing at all, the exception is quite often we have a photo of a great catch and the photo shows this great catch with blood coming from the gills or a gaff sticking throw the fishes body or a mouth full of hooks.
Now don't abuse me for pointing this out and bringing such things to your notice, I have seen how our (repeat ) enemies (and that is what they are make no mistake) just go into a mental melt down when they seen photos like this.
Remember the RSPCA campaign in the paper last year and all the anger it brought on from all and sundry, and if it wasn't for the expensive and well managed campaign by SSAA hell knows how things would have ended up. We don't want to go down that road and see good money spent on putting out bush fires started by the great unwashed.
I love to see photos of the catches members have made they are great, but please, what about removing that gaff, taking the hooks out of the mouth and giving your catch a quick wipe down with a wet cloth to remove any blood and show the fishes colours off to their best.
Sadly dear friends and members the times they are a changing, like it or not, but but, with a little bit of thought about the photo of our catch we are going to show in a public forum we just need to also think about how a good photo can be made even better.
To my fellow members I implore you please don't stop putting up photos of your catches, just spend that minute to do a couple of things before you take that happy snap.
Rant over.
