Ocky Trigger pots

Fri, 2013-08-16 16:29

Its Blake here, since I did the post we have had a lot of enquiries and a few coming in over the weekend to buy.

The commercial guys sells the same unit for $210 and one tackle shop South of us has sold 25 plus. There's a market there for sure and we kept on getting asked about them so we got them in

fair enough i wasnt suggesting you were over charging, just a personal thing i wouldnt pay 200 to catch 2 occy at a time as i dont buy them for bait because i dont use bait and wouldnt eat them all that often i guess for other peeople it might make a good investment

just a personal thing thats all

Pot floats

Sat, 2013-08-17 09:04

I think you'll find that your local fisheries officer might not be overly keen on you not attaching a float to your occy pots. Chatting to one down this way, they must have a float set up similar to that of a cray pot.

I had grand plans of doing the exact same thing so every man and his dog won't steal them. I'm now rethinking my strategy.

Unless the rules have

Sat, 2013-08-17 09:28

Unless the rules have changed, I thought that crab (and by omission occy) gear did not need to have identifying marks on them.

That may have changed with these new occy rules though

Sad to say, $199 is way over for me as well

be great out wide

30 to 35 meters and dive on them when your getting crays. would become expensive i loose heaps every year in close.(home made ones) .trigger traps work exellent for pros pulling them from deep water (they cant escape)

Yeah I'm not 100% sure on

Sat, 2013-08-17 10:00

Yeah I'm not 100% sure on the rules it's just what I was told. Maybe it's because like cray pots they are set for an indefinite period of time, where as crab pots are usually monitored over a shorter time period?

yeh

Not good to hear outsider, yes like craypots theres a few bad guys out there wanting to steal. We have a few customers that have been cleaning up near Rotto with the trigger traps and interestingly these guys said they been getting many ocky in the T/Traps but not setting off the trap door (not grabbing the crab) just loving a new home.

how long

Sat, 2016-01-02 14:28

Hi Daniel,

Some guys are leaving them for 3 days and some longer ie 1 week so find out what works better for you. As for stealing we've already discussed that above, its like craypots theres a few bad guys out there wanting to steal but so many people still put out craypots and get good results. We have sold a shit load of ocky trigger traps and our custoemr feedback has been good.
