reel sizes for the noobs

for the uninitiated can someone please clarify what line capacity and suitability of reels are. I often see people refer to 1000, 2000, 4000, 5000 size reels etc..........for the newbies on this forum please.....

different manufactures rate there reels differently, for example the 1000 may mean that the reel is designed for 10lb line and the 2000 may be for 20lb......line capacity depends on line diameter and spool size......hope that helps

PJAY, guide only;
1000 4-6lb whiting/herring/bream 200yds
2000 6-12lb tailor/skippy/bonito 300yds
3000 12-20lb tailor/salmon/dolpinfish/KG 250yds
4000 20-30lb dhufish/snapper/small sambos 250yds
5000 30-40lb sambos/dhufish/trevally 280yds
8000 40-60lb smabos/dhufish/GTs 300yds
So many variances indeed, just a ruff guide.

You might want to mention thats just Shimano reel sizes, Daiwa is a little different.
Shimano 8k = Daiwa 4500
