seeing as i have only looked
seeing as i have only looked at the latest mag (and not all the way yet)
the only complaint i have is the type font .. im using a 22 inch screen with a slightly low res .. but damn its hard to read the sloping font. the standard type font is great but not the one used in the articles themself .. anyone else having the same problem ? im going to adjust my screen res to try to fix it but not sure it will work.

Font issues
I will change the font in the first two articles but one way to fix it is to use the right mouse click and select zoom in. Thats a temp fix until I can change the fonts.
I promise never to use that font again. Its only in Kasey's and Colins articles

constructive criticism
I agree Andy, never use that font again!! The alternative font used in David Beavis's article is easy to read, if it's a change you're after.

font changed
just changed Kaseys article, but you will have to clear your cache by clicking on tools...delete browsing history... files. Once this has been done you should see the new font.
I'll start to change Colins surf popper one shortly

Hey Andy, First off, just
Hey Andy, First off, just want to say that I reckon it's brilliant, so take the following ideas with that in mind! :D
I agree with an earlier comment that some of the fonts have been hard to read. Might be a combo of font, and having photos in the background. I personally, think the photo backgrounds make for a cool effect, might just need to toy with font style/colour to maximise readability.
I'm fine with the size/frequency of the mag, but it might be better served by being smaller and come out more often. You could easily half the mag and release it monthly, and would probably get more people looking at every page...which is DEFINITELY what your sponsors/advertisers would want.
I know you are still, in some ways, in the testing phase. One thing that could be improved would be the proofreading/editing. I notice a few of simple spelling/grammatical errors in each issue. Not a biggie, but correcting such things is pretty easily done.(did you notice my error in that sentence?)
The quality of the photos/videos is just phenomenal! One minor comment here. I LOVED Colin's article on how-to make surf poppers. Very well worded, and useful info. Trouble was, the pics made it a bit difficult to see what he did. (I'm referring particularly to the pics of the completed rig.) Again, lighting/background might have a bit to do with it. I would love to see more of these types of how-to articles, but would be good to have good pics to go with the instructions.
As for what I want more of....haha! more of all of it! I love the vids, and the terrific pics. The articles of 'dream' destinations up north are great for any of us hoping/planning trips up there. I think practical articles like Colin's are awesome, and for newbies like me, would be the most useful. Maybe even a semi-regular feature on various WA target species. I'm thinking a big article on snapper/baldies/whiting/whatever with four of you guys sharing your favourite tactics/tips.
Good luck with the future of the mag....I reckon it's a beauty!

Proof Reading
I take full responsibility for that as I proof read and edit the stories when they first come in but unfortunately once I start putting them into the mag and move things around with cutting and pasting here, there and everywhere we get a few errors.
"I notice a few of simple " is that the error you mention?
With this mag especialy I took the decision to just get it out there as it had been more than 2 months since the last one and didnt do a final full read of the mag, so if there are any errors please let me know and I will correct them. Ive changed the fonts in the offending articles and if the current font size is an issue I may go larger to make it easier for small screen users to read.
Keep the ideas and comments coming, its the only way we can improve the mag in ways that add value to the reader experience.
Cheers

Eddie, I take the full blame for the picture on the finished rig
I was aiming to put together a video of putting everything together to add to the article, but unfortunately something came up.
I will see about taking a better picture with a more suitable background and post it up on the site,
Thanks very much for the positive feedback on the magazine and my article, it is greatly appreciated,
Andy and his supporters have done an awesome job and I know he has some great ideas for the future,
Colin

I will have to tidy up my shed Eddie (Lol) You couldn't swing a
a cat in there at the moment.
I hope to be able to put together a few other articles along a similar line in future issues. Thanks again for your support, Colin

Q1. a) Q2. d)anything else
Q1. a)
Q2. d)anything else (please expand) More how to articles probably.
Q3. a - b) I think that mag is great and enjoy the content, but I'd like to see it more often, but would understand if that lead to it being slimmer.
Q4. b - c) Hand in hand with the comment above.
Q5. e & f) Possibly something about where Paul gets those damn dhufish.
I enjoy the articles about where I'm not fishing; new cal, pilbara & deep water. Sorry if it upsets people after all their hard work, but I don't watch all the videos. I don't mind linked content, but prefer embedded and I'm usually too lazy to download it.
I guess you track useage on each mag, but have you considered making older mags available in a downloadable format?

Vids and Downloads
I tried embedding the vids but it distorted the pages when I had them in there as streaming content or made each page load take forever when I had them totally embedded.
The current set up is a compromise and allows the vid to be opened in a fresh window and buffer while you continue to read the mag. The vid then streams easily with no download necessary. It also lowers the file size for each page so the mag pages load quicker. Best I can do with a zero dollar budget I'm afraid.
Eventually if the mag takes off and we have more sponsorship money then we will look to achieving a high quality super fast embedded video codec to allow HD vid on the fly within the mag, but that is very expensive and not likely any time soon unless we get our advertising stepped up considerably. Its a free mag after all and we want to keep it that way.
My guess is a downloadable version would be a very large file size unless we lost all interaction and did it as a pdf. But then the cost there is in the time required to convert it, which would be huge. Its on the agenda but hard to achieve.
I'll volunteer to do the piece on where Paul G gets his Dhufish as long as he lets me take my GPS with me :p
Cheers

I must say I thought the surf popper article was highly entertaining while being informative without being just a regugitation of facts. Well done Colin! I really enjoyed following the steps.

Thanks Kasey
It was a lot of trial and error (probably mostly errors) but a lot of fun at the same time.

I agree with what Jamie said
I agree with what Jamie said about downloading it. I get enough grief for the amount of time I spend looking at the computer screen so a download as a .pdf would be great for me. I could then read it at work, on the plane, in the car etc and losing the interaction wouldn't bother me as you can always go to the proper version if you want to see it later. Maybe having each article saved as a seperate .pdf to Fishwrecked so you can just download/ save the articles of interest to you? I know I've skimmed over articles before as I just didn't have the time to read them while online.

Feedback
Hi Andy, like those above, I congratulate you and the authors on your efforts. Great stuff!
Feedback is:
Q1. When you first log in do you like to
a)flick through and look at the pics then come back teh next day or days and have a read
Q2. What do you want to see more of in the mag?
I think the balance is prety good already (but then I don't bother to watch most of the videos)
Q3. How big do you want the mag to be? b) less
Q4. Would you prefer the mag to be
b)smaller but more frequent - say monthly
Q5. Do you want more of
g) all of the above plus anything else. I like variety in a mag. We can all dream of the things we would like to do and the places we would like to go, even if we may never actually get there! Given the number of newbies that keep popping up on the site, I think it would also be useful to have some articles on bread & butter fish, tailor, herring, skippy etc, both landbased and small boat sort of stuff. And occasional articles on boat maintenance or tackle maintenance or modification might appeal to users of the Fishwrecked site too. I too would appreciate the articles being in PDF so I can save those of particular interest. And I agree with the previous comments about the fonts in the orginal version - really hard to read. Keep up the good work! Peter

Don't know what happened there???
When I wrote my post above, it has spaces between responses. These still appeared when I previewed the comment, but when I posted it, they dissappeared. Makes it hard to read now. What went wrong??

If you have the chance to read Ewan's article, take
the time to do so. It is a well put together, well researched read, and has the type of information that all fisherman will benefit from.
