Refueling

I was wondering how everyone else goes refueling their boat. My boat is 6m and seems to struggle negotiating it through the servo on the cheap fuel days. I usually get the odd glance and sometimes receive a polite word regarding being in the way.
How do the guys who have a big 7m plus platey go refueling? Is it just me?
I hardly ever see any other boats at servos am I missing something? Jerry cans?

my opinion if others have a prob with you being in the way . stiff shit. your money is as good as theirs.
we had a 7mtr boat and had similar probs . biggest prob i found was some servo layouts where you needed to drive the car right forward blocking the driveway for cars to get out.

Just choose an off peak time
Just choose an off peak time if they are really busy. I always top up on the way home from fishing but I have a couple that I use because they are easier to get in and out of.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

I fill from jerry cans...
.. using a 'juggle' syphon.
Its quick, clean and I can do it at my leisure.
I know a bloke with a 7m Surtees refills at truck stops, where they have enuff room for BIG semi's.... and boats...

Cheap fuel days...
...there's your problem. If you can afford a boat/rego/insurance/etc, a few extra cents per liter shouldn't be an issue.
But if it IS an issue...fuel up on the way to fishing. Oh Dark Hundred at this time of year and way fewer people at the pumps.

Yeah that’s the issue boating expenses are huge so I have to save money somewhere. Can save quite a bit when I’m using 100ltr per week

Is that more than one trip out
My 6.8 seaquest uses less than 50 litres each trip and I generally head at least 15nm beyond Garden Island so the total trip is around 50nm .......used to use well over double that until I repowered with a 225 Yammy but have still been considering Gerry cans given the servo around the corner from where I live regularly has the cheapest fuel in Perth $1.29 yesterday and the boat resides as th boat club

Filling from jerry cans...
My boat is 100m from the ramp and 20km from the nearest country town....
I'm not doing a 40km round trip just to fill the boat when I can fill the jerries whilst doing my normal shopping run...

Jerrys with a good funnel.
Not hard, probably would put in at least 800 litres a year with jerrys on various trips. I'm lucky to have a servo close, and tend to fuel up on the way home if needed.

I think I’ll go Jerry’s from now on I’ve already have three so will just buy a couple more and use the jiggler syphon. Much less stress

get yourself the jerry cans
get yourself the jerry cans with the flexable nozzle. i use them on longer trips as main tank only holds 70ltrs , no need for a syphon then

Are you kidding? People filling cars are giving you looks and you feel bad? Youve the same right as anyone to fill your car or boat at a time that suits you if your there first they can either wait or go elsewhere. Why would you use gerry cans and double handle fuel to please others .........
I fill where i want when i want and if people ever said anything i'd tell em where to go.

Exactly your money is as good as the next persons, if the servo owner has any problems I'm sure he would have had a quite word with you about the time to fill the boat. If he hasn't said anything then the impatient bastards can go jump.
It's the same at launching ramps we all recover our boats as quick and safely as we can, unfortunately there will always be someone who wants everyone to make way for them and if you don't recover your boat to his time table they get all airheaded over it.

Got to pick your servos.. jerry cans is ok but double handling is average and those slow pours aren’t great.. I got a fancy filter funnel off ebay which makes things a bit quicker and you’d be surprised how much crap it filters out. I try to go at night or early hours and can only fit in 1 of the provided lanes.. if someone’s in it, I wait.. and block the entrance.. is what it is

Haha, I block 2 lanes and fill both tanks at the same time (1 either side), I get evil looks and remarks but hey I take 400 + litres at a time. I asked the manager one day if he minded? His comment was basically if you take that much fuel, do whetever you want!
If using Jerries, buy a nice big funnel throw away the spouts and fill in about a quarter of the time!

Industrial areas are the go. I've got a fuel station in Wangara that is quiet and laid out so I can drive straight in and out.. Feck lining up for cheap fuel days in a car letalone with a boat

I just go to the servo with
I just go to the servo with 200l drum in the yard ute. Less hassle and I do the transfer with a 12v Alemite pump, I have 2 filters set up for diesel transfer.
