everyone catching 100 of
everyone catching 100 of these buggers wouldnt even make a dent in the population, they need to find a virus that will destroy them , but thats not likely to happen

i suppose its good for the fishes not to be even more overfished. Imagine if every noob with a rod could fish without touching a blowie. We'd hae new fishing regulations coming out our asses

maybe we should learn from the asians how to prepare them for the table.
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

do blowies contribute at all
do blowies contribute at all to the food chain?
are they integral to the health of the water ways or have they just spawned to plague proportions.
im just wondering about the consequences of culling of a native species.
dont get me wrong, i HATE those ugly things.

From what I understand they
From what I understand they are very important in maintaining the health of the waterways. I read an article a while ago explaining how they contribute to the ecosystem. For the population to increase as such it usually requires something to trigger the change, this could possibly by an increase of nutrients in the water which increases algal growth, which in turn provides a food supply. Or one of many other possibilities. They are a native species and changes in the population are almost certainly a part of the natural cycle.

Now that is our kind of
Now that is our kind of fishing.
The boys get a bit disgusted that they only seem to catch blowies. At least they are catching a fish even if we can't eat it.

Well
If catching and killing blowies is illegal i should be in jail. when i was younger i used to take a golf club down to the jetty and if i caught one id wait till it puffed up and hit it back into the water. lol

we used to put the puffed up
we used to put the puffed up blowies on top af canning bridge and wait for a truck or buss to hit them . they go off with a real bang.used to refer it to as blowie bridge as there was so many dried up blowies on there it would cause a bit of a smell

They do have a good use in Mandurah
Good crab bait, and other blowies dont seem to like their cousens that much.
Nasty little suckers.

I have to admit it is fantastic up here in Karratha fishing and forgetting they even exist. Ha Ha. Another good thing for the NW
