REPOWER

Im trying to do some research on a repower on a boat that im looking at its a BARRON SPORTSMAN and has an old volvo in it as i have posted on a previous topic, just wondering opinions on mercruser or volvo i dont want to put a pod on it and im asking this as I have heard that volvo parts and servicing can be hard to get so it makes me lean towards mercruiser is this true thourghts and ideas wopuld be great.

its not a ford vs holden debate im just chasing ideas

Money

A lot depends on how much money you have to put in to it.

If you went small Volvo diesel you would get performance and economy to match but the initial cost would  be worry. Have heard the V6 mercruisers are economical and have the extra grunt to give the Baron a fair kick up the bum

Doing it now.........

Ferret, I'm doing a full engine, leg replacement at the moment. 4.3MPI mercruiser, everything from the key to the prop. Boat is a Leeder Tomcat and the V6 pushes it along pretty quick. If you want some idea of cost etc send me a pm.

Fuelwise I was burning around 2ltrs to the NM sitting on around 22-24knots. Don't know if the new set-up will be any better. Hope to be back on the water in 3 weeks

Definately Fuel

IMO you need to stay with Fuel .

To go for a new diesel would cost to much and you would never get your money back when you resell it.

I hate myself to have to say this but ........." black is the way for this boat"

pod /outboard

i had looked into the sportsman and looked at removing the inboard and creating a fish well , then glass up the transom and hang a 135 hp of the rear end, this would creat lots of deck space and give around 1 nm to a litre with the right motor, depends on your finance , this topic has been done before so look at the search menu
