Andy I know one of the guys that rescued them and chatted with him on Sunday. The FB page says it was a chance encounter but they were actively looking for them and found them about 1km west of the ferries. The ferry offered to get an ambulance to meet them in Freo but they declined strongly for obvious reasons! Bloody stupid to be going falt out in those conditions. Freak wave? Yeah right!

That bloke behind the Amarok
That bloke behind the Amarok must have ended up on his backside under the boat. So incredibly lucky.
Gotta love ally boats.

He was lucky he jumped out
He was lucky he jumped out of the way. Would've been a different story if he stayed on the winch, could've been chopped up by an airborne prop. I know life jackets are mandatory, soon we'll have to wear helmets at the ramp. Really nice centre console tho.

Either way, video sped up or not. Getting a plate ali of that size over less than 20mtrs onto the walkway at Mindarie ramp would have required a fair amount of speed and torque. That's crazy.

An admission
I have actually done a similar thing with my 7.5m ali boat....not fun.
My circumstance was that I pulled up at Ocean Reef boat ramp as per normal, decky jumped off and secured one end of the rope.
As I got off the helm chair and stepped off the foot rest, my foot slipped and I fell straight on the throttles and onto the floor.
The boat was at full throttle, but tied to the jetty, essentially lurching up onto the jetty platform then falling down for a couple of seconds until I got off the floor and could pull the throttles back.
Sustained a little damage to the side plates on my boat, but minor in the scheme of things.
Could easily have ended up like old mate in the video.
All I can say is that it happens in a heartbeat.
It is an accident, but I sure do take more care now.

Apparently this is almost
Apparently this is almost exactly what happened. No amount of kill switch will help when the decky slips onto the throttle as he is jumping onto the jetty. Skipper was in the helm seat for the whole wild ride.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Throttle
Some of these fly by wire throttles can be so sensitive, surprised it doesn't happen more often
So lucky no one was hurt or worse in that incident

Don't most throttles need you
Don't most throttles need you to pull the button on the handle up before it will change out of neutral?
Unless he had it idling in gear when he bumped it.

My boat has FBW throttle so I need to be careful. Found out early that when I went into the pen and flicked it into neutral it was often going into reverse making penning it hard!
