Rigging techniques for butterfly jigs

Hey

I am keen to hear people's thoughts on the different ways of rigging butterfly jigs, particularly Caprice, Hooker, Ima Ro etc for targetting demersals/reef dwellers.

The twin assist on the top seems popular, though I notice that jigs like the Fanky come with the double hook & squid combo on the slotted mount on the bottom. Have also seen people combining both these methods, though most pics I have seen of Caprice's run the top assist, rather than the double on the bottom as with the Fanky.

Any input appreciated!

Dan

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

always off the top for me, sometimes 2 hooks, one on either end of the red cord and looped knotted to the swivel. Sometimes a single hook on doubled red cord looped to the swivel. All depends on what is in the box and how many times I've had to re-rig. I do like 2 hooks though, that second one always seems to hook up to the outside of the face during the fight as some insurance.

Pretty sure

most if not all guys run assist hooks from the top. Most demersals strike at the head of there target so it makes sense anyway. Personally I don't think it matters if you use 1 or 2 though I tend to just use one (less tangles?). Just make sure the size of the hooks and length of the assist cord is correct for the type of jig. Hooks not too big and cord not too long.

When it comes to Fankys, rip those provided hooks straight off the bottom and rig them at the top. Worked for me yesterday, pics coming. LIAM?????

The splits on the fankys look

The splits on the fankys look pretty average. Are they as they look (and should they be replaced)? Or are they servicable?

I wouldn't use anything other than Owner Hyperwire split rings and solid rings. So yeah, toss em.

We run our assist off the top and normally run a single but if its a double the Maria Fighter twin hook is our preferred.

Dan,

Have been using Shout Twin Assist 1/0, 2/0 and 3/0's for a while now and have the best hook up rate by far.

Also being double barbed, when set they don't move.

Highly recommend them to any jigger!
